"Too Much Johnson"....a great title for a porn film, yes?

What's interesting and potentially dismaying from our point of view is that Mr. Bogdanovich tends to eschew original scoring, no?

Oh well, the question is who today would give it the Herrmannesque treatment a vintage Welles work most richly deserves? Guess I think of JN Howard...

FWIW, PB does I'm sure still respect and revere his departed mentor and will want as closely as possible to approximate the film Welles intended to make, not a new Bogdanovich production. (But now that you mention it, I can't offhand think of an original-scored Bogdanovich movie, so I guess you're right about that part. Some films of course are right for that approach, LAST PICTURE SHOW and PAPER MOON for example being period pieces which benefitted from contemporaneous recordings.)

David, thanks for noticing our Mary. (I got to see a screening of JOHNSON at the museum this year.)

A friend of mine from college days played one of the nuns in SISTER ACT, and so one day at Disney I had the great pleasure of meeting Miss Wickes. This past year, I was happy to see that someone had written a biography of Miss Wickes, but of course it would have been much better, in fact wonderful, if the actress herself had written an autobiography.

..... " contemporaneous " recordings.

Ah Preston, you never fail to amaze me! smile

But then again, we have to expect this high quality expression of thoughts from a former
New England resident! wink

Well, yes, but now it's official. smile And after all the rumors about the completion of this film over the years, it has to be official before I'll sit up and take notice. Amazing that it appears to be truly headed for completion. Let's hope that it turns out to be worth the wait!

It's funny looking back and seeing the evolution of the project as reflected by the evolving discussion on this thread. For me, I'm delighted that a composer has been commissioned. And yet that doesn't preclude the reservations I had four years ago from being fulfilled. Another entry looms on the "Film scores that never happened thread?! Maybe not. No matter, let's watch how this next stage plays out.

Since I went in on this Indiegogo a long time ago, I've been wondering how they would approach this. Having seen a lot of footage from THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WIND I couldn't think of a more ideal choice for this. He need only to match the energy of this Welles piece. His sensibility is already there. Hopefully he will be as inspired as Henry Mancini on TOUCH OF EVIL.

BTW for those with remarks about this is unlikely to happen. It has been already been recorded and with their budget and time restraints I can almost guarantee this will under no circumstances will be dumped.
