FRIDAY, OCTOBER 24
THE MUMMY---the Universal Pictures reboot movie reportedly has a team of Navy SEALs searching for a terrorist bunker in the Iraqi desert and discover the tomb of Assyrian king Ashurbanipal which is protected by mystical forces. The SEALs turn on each other, and one of them, Colt Tyler, opens the sarcophagus which results in him being cursed with visions of Ashurbanipal---The Mummy. Tyler leaves the Navy, but when The Mummy appears wreaking havoc, he is the only one who can stop it. Other main characters are a female archaeologist, a mysterious billionaire and a group called the Temple Brothers.
THE MARTIAN---Sebastian Stan, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Mackenzie Davis have joined the cast of the Ridley Scott movie about an astronaut stranded on Mars. Matt Damon, Jeff Daniels, Sean Bean, Kate Mara, Jessica Chastain and Kristen Wiig also star.
WONDER WOMAN---Warner Bros. is seeking a female director for the movie with the top candidates being Kathryn Bigelow (ZERO DARK THIRTY), Mimi Leder (DEEP IMPACT), Catherine Hardwicke (TWILIGHT) and Michelle MacLaren (GAME OF THRONES). The movie premiers on June 23, 2017.
PROMETHEUS---Noomi Rapace speculated on her character in the sequel, "Well, I know Elizabeth Shaw wants to go to paradise. I say that in the first one. I don't want to go back. She can't go to Earth, because there's nothing left for her there...She wants to go to where they came from, these giant creatures. I think, in her head, that's a dark paradise, in a way, so what's there? I don't know. I think she wants answers, she wants to know, and I feel like I'm sharing her curiosity, but also anger."
She added about the sequel's villains, "God, maybe? God or Devil, I don't know. I don't know where he's going to take us, but I can't wait to go there. I don't know what we're going to discover."
HERE COMES HONEY BOO BOO---TLC canceled the reality series after TMZ reported matriarch June Shannon is dating a convicted child molester.
THE ODD COUPLE---Lauren Graham (PARENTHHOD), the ex-wife of Matthew Perry, will guest star on the CBS remake of the movie as the ex-wife of Oscar Madison who is played by Matthew Perry.
THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA---tv musical series underway about the current cutthroat music business and is not connected to the Broadway musical. Marc Cherry (DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES) is the creator.
RIVERDALE---Fox drama tv series underway based on the Archie comic book. The series will focus on, "the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale’s wholesome façade". The script is by Roberto Aguirre-Sarcasa of Archie Comics who wrote the remakes of CARRIE and THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN.
KING DAVID---Warner Bros. Biblical epic movie underway based on the book DAVID: THE DIVIDED HEART.
FREE FIRE---movie underway from the HIGH-RISE team of Ben Wheatley and Luke Evans which is set in 1978 Boston. A shootout occurs during an arms sale between two Irishmen and a gang. Evans, Armie Hammer, Olivia Wilde and Cillian Murphy star.
TINKER BELL AND THE LEGEND OF THE NEVERBEAST---animated movie underway with Tinker Bell's voice by Ginnifer Goodwin (ONCE UPON A TIME).
HIGH PROFITS---CNN ordered eight episodes of the series about two partners who own a marijuana club franchise.
