If someone has the VHS (or DVD if one exists), would you be willing to download & post just the Main Title music by Lionel Newman.
As an old time projectionist (now in his 70s), I still remember the stirring theme from this 1953 Fox western. I used to have it on a cassette but several house moves later it’s long gone. Very short, but a great starter to yet another golden age western. Any help appreciated.
I'm not aware of any VHS tape being issued for THE SILVER WHIP, but the Fox Cinema Archives issued a made-on-demand DVD of the film in May 2013. Unfortunately, I don't own it.
Lionel Newman is credited as "music director" rather than composer, so perhaps the film used stock music. This "B" western was written by Jesse L. Lasky, who wrote many films for Cecil B. DeMille, including UNION PACIFIC, SAMSON AND DELILAH, and THE TEN COMMANDMENTS.
Not that it matters, but if I remember correctly, the Main Title was written by Alfred Newman. It was a variation on his Brigham Young March. It was also used as the Main Title for Yellow Sky and Rawhide (1951). I too really love that theme. The Brigham Young March is available on the Newman album Wuthering Heights from Koch.
