Well, here is a Horror Film title I've never heard of from some years back, 'DOG SOLDIERS' released in 2002. Like the Horror Film I missed 35 years ago ('Changeling'), this film boasts some impressive reviews from individual folk at The Netflix site. I've never heard of the Director nor any of the film's actors, however the premise of 'Scottish Werewolves' is just too unusual to pass up. Any one here recommend this film?

Yes, I dig that film!

Neil Marshall followed up with two very creepy and effective horror films -- THE DESCENT 1 and 2. His DOOMSDAY isn't that shabby either, but CENTURION leaves something to be desired.

However, he also did some great work on GAME OF THRONES and BLACK SAILS.

He's quickly risen to fame as a great genre director.

Most movies do not scare me, but this one made me jump. I liked it and thought it was well done. Very gory! I liked the characters. They were developed enough to care about them. Kevin McKidd had been in a lot of movies since this movie was made and is a regular lead star in Grey's Anatomy. I think you'll recognize some of the actors.

I thought some of the music, especially towards the end, was very good. I think we've talked about the music in the show a few times here at FSM. I thought David Julyan composed the music, but the IMDB lists Mark Thomas as the composer. Anyway, listen to the score.

I thought this was one of the more effective, well-done scary shows. Go for it, MD, and let us know what you think about the movie.

MD, I tried to post other reviews from FSM, but the board is just too slow. Type in Dog Soldiers in the Search Terms, and you will find four different threads on this movie and the CD. Sorry I couldn't post them, but I kept ending up with a blank page until time ran out.

This is a startlingly topical post, considering this:

To be fair, I haven't read every word, but I don't think it mentions werewolves as such.

Thanks for this Chris. We have Wolves in Montana. I read your article and in the final paragraph it mentions, "currently there is a reintroduction of The Beaver in Scotland." Indeed; well, I'll say!

I enjoyed this but there are some drawbacks you'll have to overlook. But that's true of almost everything. It's not bad for a low-budget independent feature. Not terribly original but entertaining in its own enthusiastic-gusto way none-the-less.

But if Scotland has beavers, it'll need werewolves.

That's a 5 min nature doc. Might not be for everyone on this board.

Big fan of Dog Soldiers. Made me take note of Neil Marshall as a talent to watch.

Long time fan of "Dog Soldiers", and Marshall's "The Descent" is a must-see if you have not caught it before...a proper scare ride.
