I have a CD of this wonderful film score from the 1990s and wonder if anybody here knows the work. Very evocative and with some exceptional playing, on the Tall Poppies label.
Just finished listening to the full suite; Not really my cup of tea personally - The opening movement is very "modern" and sounds like a typical modern guitar concerto, and while it becomes more 'thematic' and easy-going as it progresses, nothing really grabbed me - No overarching melody to grasp - though I give Westlake kudos for the brooding and 'serious' nature of the music, as I only know him for his comparatively bouncy themes form MISS POTTER and BABE personally.
I will say it didn't evoke anything "Antarctic" for me at all though - But hey, what do I know...?

Thank you for taking the trouble to listen to it!! You've got a very enquiring mind. Yes, there's modernity in the piece, but I still think it's very evocative of its chilly namesake. The 'Dance of the Penguins" was highly original, often funny. The music IS brooding, you're quite right.
You ask 'what would I know'? I'd answer; what interests you and teases your imagination! Cheers.
