I am pretty private but, oddly, you all feel like friends even as I have never met you personally...Anyway, writing here to tell you to love your dads, and to somewhat get it off my chest - my dad passed away last week...We were sometimes at odds, I got a bit wild before I finally settled down. He was a pretty deep guy, a thinker, and sometimes I was not sure what he felt about me. Ado, the first strategy dads learn as their kids grow up is the manly façade. Even the best-intentioned fathers don't realize that the façade inhibits their opportunity to mentor their children. And I think it's a universal phenomenon. And a lot of the fanboy-type entertainment we laud on this board deals with the issue of the absent, abstruse, or neglectful father (Its what the STAR WARS saga, lots of westerns, even LAWRENCE OF ARABIA all have lodged in their thematic core). When my dad started repeating Ronald Reagan-type platitudes, thinking I was going to be fooled into believing it was a good faith attempt at mentor-ship, I tuned out and never really listened to him again. And I pay the price to this day. Still, I'm better off for having followed my own path, because my dad had nothing past heart to offer. Still, heart is a hell of a lot more than nothing, and it sounds like your dad certainly had that. Think of that when the bad old times intrude. And never quit bashing Mondo; no, never quit that.

Yes I will certainly continue my Mondo bashing. Last Friday there were about 300, mostly bearded and homeless attired hipster nerds waiting on the sidewalk... "Homeless attired", I like that one. Most of those guys (and some girls too!) don't have the guts for real Austin homelessness. Take it from an expert on that practice.
