The film usually gets rather bad reviews and bombed at the box office but at least one aspect of the film is first rate: the wonderful score by Jack Nitzsche. It has one of the most beautiful main themes I`ve ever heard. It`s a rather long and sweeping Barryesque melody. Also the rest of the score is memorable. I even enjoy the "indian tracks" which are seperated from the orchestral parts on the disc.

The oop album is still available on Amazon marketplace for a reasonable price.

Very true.

Deserves a CD release.

There is one. I have it and it seems very legit to me.

Of course it's legit - it's Preamble/Southern Cross.

IMHO this is Nitzsche's best.
