Was just wondering if anyone can tell me what the time signature is for the Conan The Barbarian Anvil of Crom theme? It seems to have a changing time signature or grouping of beats but I haven't been able to work out what it is... 3/8, 4/8, 5/8, 3/8, 4/8,3/8,4/8,5/8 etc.... oh that's interesting, if impractical. i'd figured it out in my mind as a big 11/4 - then saw him conducting it in spain and he's more or less clearly indicating two 3/8 groupings alternating with 3 and 2 2/8 groupings, back and forth, between. this suddenly made alot of sense to me in terms of the phrasing, so it's kind of fascinating to learn that it's written that way!

This is fun...! Lots of speculation above, but James already said it. 3/8, (3/8), 4/8, 5/8, 3/8, 4/8 {repeat} I think if I were to conduct it I would beat 2 (3s)-3 (2s)-2 (3s) -2 (2s). Tricky pattern!

Tricky pattern! ah, you just clarified it for me, thank you - TWO bars 3/8 - i was mystified about the second group of 3 somehow being the first 3 beats of the 4/8, but James is just marking the time signature changes. though clearly you and i hear the rhythmic breakdown the same way. but again, fascinating to see there's this creeping 3-3-4-5-3-4-3-3-4-5-3-4 thing nested in there...
