In a little bit of self-promotion, I thought I'd let everyone know that a film I scored, The Creep Behind the Camera, is one of the films being featured prominently at ScreamFest this year. Screamfest is one of the biggest horror film festivals in the world, so this is pretty good news for my brother, who wrote and directed smile I'm pretty happy about it too, as some of the reviews have commented positively on the score.

For anyone interested, there are some clips posted on my web page, www.jsmusicandsound.com. See if you can pick out the temp score pieces my brother asked me to emulate wink You'd think my brother would not be such a slave to the temp, but that's the way it went. Fortunately I was able to go my own way with the vast majority of the film.

Mods - if this crosses a line in terms of self-promotion, please delete.

Thanks much! Here is the Main Title montage. My brother fell in love with the "Taking of Pelham" temp, so I emulated the very beginning of the track and then turned it into my own thing. WARNING - some profanity near the very end of this clip. This gives a very good overview of what the film is like.

One more. This is an animated sequence that illustrates what "The Creeping Terror" would have looked like if screenwriter Allan Silliphant's vision had actually been followed. I had fun with this sequence as it gave me an opportunity to pay homage to Bernard Herrmann and Akira Ifukube's monster / SF movie scores smile

John, nothing wrong with self-promotion here. Thanks for sharing. I hear a lot of creepy, scary music. Well done. When I watched the first clip, my husband heard it and said it reminded him a bit of the main theme to Mission Impossible. I do hear that in its rhythms. Hope this movie opens up more avenues for you.

Thumbs up! For both the music and the clips of the movie itself.

Thanks! Finishing up work on HALCYON (an undersea thriller featuring Courtney Gains) then on to THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO STEPHENSON.

Thanks for your comments smile The Mission Impossible vibe was intentional (and perhaps unavoidable, lol).

Cool! I will pass this on to the other filmmakers.

The ScreamFest showing was extremely well received and attended. Since the film is a docudrama about the making of THE CREEPING TERROR - literally the worst film ever made - it was hosted by Mystery Science Theater 3000's Trace Beaulieu (Crow T. Robot, Dr. Forrester) and Frank Conniff (TV's Frank). Trace in particular is a huge fan of our film.

BTW, Frank Conniff is a big film score fan. The night before the showing the two MST3K guys hung out with the cast and crew and he and I talked about Jerry Goldsmith and Elmer Bernstein for a good 20 minutes or so. After the showing Frank took the time to tell me he thought I did a great job on the score, and Trace said he thought it was "outstanding." Nice to get this praise from two guys who aren't afraid to call something "bad" when they see (or hear) it!

Even nicer was the comment from Harry Medved, who also attended as a fan of the film (Harry occasionally writes about film for CNN.com plus is the author of "The 50 Worst Films of All Time" and "The Golden Turkey Awards"). He wrote the producer of the film to say:

"I love the film’s jazzy score by John Schuermann. It really evokes the off-kilter cheesiness of 50s-60s drive-in monster movies, featuring great use of the theremin and some wonderful wacky tributes to Dr. Frederick Kopp’s immortal score to the 1964 classic 'The Creeping Terror.'”

Very gratifying.

Here ends my self-promotion. smile
