MONDAY, OCTOBER 13

SEXIEST WOMAN ALIVE---Penelope Cruz, 49, is ESQUIRE magazine's "Sexiest Woman Alive" for 2014. Previous title holders are Scarlett Johansson, Kate Beckinsale and Mila Kunis.

JAMES BOND 24---Dave Bautista (GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY) reportedly will play a villain named Hinx in the sequel. The producers say Hinx will be the latest in the line of iconic Bond villains like Oddjob, Jaws and Red Grant.

UNDERWORLD---director Len Wiseman said his wife, Kate Beckinsale, is returning for another sequel in the franchise. He added that a spin-off movie starring Theo James (DIVERGENT) and a spin-off tv series are also underway.

THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES---new poster released of Evangeline Lilly as Tauriel.

TWIN PEAKS---Michael Horse said he and Michael Ontkean might return as Sheriff Truman and Deputy Hawk for the Showtime sequel series, "I already heard they are [getting Michael Ontkean back], that's what I heard. But it's going to be really interesting. They're going to get some new characters, they're going to get some young girls, that's sort of the eye of these guys. But what happened to these characters 25 years later is going to be really interesting to the fans." He said David Lynch's representative has unsuccessfully tried to call him, but Horse's not sure if it's to tell him he's wanted or he won't be invited to return.

BATMAN---director Joel Schumacher commented on directing BATMAN FOREVER, "When they offered it to me, I went to Tim [Burton] and said, "This is your franchise and they want me to do it. I won't do it if you don't want me to." He said, "Take it, please! I can't do another one." Even though BATMAN FOREVER is really sexy, it was a movie the whole family could see." He said about adding nipples to Batman's costume, "I think that will be on my gravestone. It's how I'll be remembered."
His comments about BATMAN AND ROBIN, "Val [Kilmer] left at eleventh hour to do THE ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU. It changed everything. George [Clooney] made a noble effort. I was the problem with BATMAN AND ROBIN. I never did a sequel to any of my movies, and sequels are only made for one reason: to make more money and sell more toys. I did my job. But I never got my ass in the seat right.
They immediately wanted a sequel, but I said yes. There's nobody else to blame but me. I could have said, "No, I'm not going to do it." I just hope whenever I see a list of the worst movies ever made, we're not on it. I didn't do a good job. George did. Chris [O'Donnell] did. Uma [Thurman] is brilliant in it. Arnold is Arnold."
Also, Michael Keaton was asked if would do another Batman movie, "If it was Tim Burton directing? In a heartbeat."

VACATION---director John Francis Daley said he and his fellow co-stars from FREAKS AND GEEKS will appear in the VACATION reboot movie, "I don't think I can even give away what my role is. I don't know if anyone even knows this yet, but Samm Levine, and it's looking like Martin Starr, will also be in the film. I don't know if they've been confirmed yet in the cast, but it's looking really good. I just wanted a chance to get the three geeks back together, in the same project." Ed Helms, Christina Applegate and Chris Helms also star.

RESIDENT EVIL---a tv series based on the movie franchise is underway and will premiere after the final movie is released.

THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS---a tv series based on the movie series is underway. Ed Decter (HELIX) is the showrunner.

BLACK SAILS---Starz renewed the series for Season 3.

DARK CRYSTAL---a source said a sequel is underway along with a sequel to FRAGGLE ROCK at The Jim Henson Company. The source denied reports that a sequel to LABYRINTH is planned. The JIM HENSON Company would not confirm the reports.

LEGO BATMAN---the spin-off movie has been fasttracked at Warner Bros.

THE OTHER DEAD---Animal Planet series underway based on the graphic novel about zombie animals in Louisiana during Hurricane Katrina.

THE KENNEDYS: AFTER CAMELOT---sequel miniseries underway to THE KENNEDYS with Katie Holmes returning as Jackie Kennedy. Holmes is the co-producer and will direct one episode.

BRIDGET JONES 3---Hugh Grant said he has has left the sequel, "I decided not to do it. But I think they're going to go ahead and do it without Daniel. The book's excellent, by the way, but the script is completely different - well, the script as I last saw it a few years ago."

THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES---new poster released of Evangeline Lilly as Tauriel.

What's with this new trend of digitizing people into the uncanny valley for movie posters? Either take some good photos or hire a freakin' artist.

It's gotten really bad of late. Jennifer Lawrence is hardly recognizable on the Hunger Games posters. Then again, this is hardly a new development. Look at Jodie Foster on the key art for Contact or Nicole Kidman on that for The Peacemaker. In both instances, their male counterparts are still recognizable. I guess women are only visually appealing when they no longer look as they really do.

Arnold is Arnold.

Haha! That's probably the best way to describe every performance from Schwarzenegger.

I also find Batman & Robin very entertaining in a cringe-worthy, "What were they thinking?!?" kind of way.

She's actually 40 (Halle Berry is the oldest person to get the title).

I'm kind of tired of seeing apologies for "Batman & Robin" at this point, whether from Schumacher or Clooney. Didn't Schumacher spend time during his DVD commentary saying something similar? And how many times has Clooney apologized for ending the franchise at that point? Let's just move on, the movie wasn't what anyone hoped for, it happens, but for how many more years are we going to see questions about it?

While I'm pleased that Dark Crystal and Fraggle Rock are again getting talked about, the last attempt from a couple of years back went nowhere. I hold out little hope, and I really doubt the audience is there for them.

If I was voted "Sexiest Man Alive!!!" I think I`d be somewhat mortified.

A ridiculously bold absurd contention. Absolutes like this are good for a laugh though. Just more marketting to inject life into inconsequential media publications.

Posters - there is an art to graphically processed imagery. Just another tool at use. That said, I *do* concur about the missed likes of Bob Peak... trusting an artist to embody a film so as to pique one`s interest. The Road Warrior and Excalibur are the best examples of that tradition. It would be nice if they (echoing broad reference voice) would commission special paintings for the new Star Wars films; at least take a stab at rendering that bit of poster magic.

Yeah, it's silly. I just roll my eyes.
