James has announced that he will rerecord Herrmann's complete OBSESSION! Grand to have this long-awaited (ain't that the truth!) score finally get the showcase it deserves.

Well if anyone could do justice to it it's Mr. Fitzpatrick and his team.

Also, I suspect it would sell rather well.

And the original is coming out soon too, right?

James said that. However, if that album is a straight reissue, it might only be the standard 38 minute edit. Fans have long wanted the complete score to be available on CD.

That's my personal favorite of Herrmann, sympathetic shuffling of the masterworks of our finest.

Mystery, beauty, fear and longing, the organ, the choir along with Herrmann's trademark suspense. It was ever my favorite over VERTIGO (sorta similar movie though).

Gotta be a hoot for sure.

This version seems pretty complete to me...

In all seriousness, I'll buy it day one. Thanks James!

Without hearing a note, we can be sure new Obsession will be an improvement in two ways at least: better recording technology and no french horn flubs in the most strident passages. I also expect the interpretation of the music as music to be first-rate.

Where can I pre-order?

While I appreciate your supportive sentiment that's a rather shocking statement as long as Bill Stromberg is around. I mean, the only other conductor who does Herrmann as well is maybe Esa-Pekka Salonen, and he's recorded a lot less.

I'm not saying Nic Raine won't be able to rise to the challenge of Fahrenheit 451, The Kentuckian, Neretva, and (most of all) Mysterious Island. But it should be acknowledged that it's a tall order!

Well, I don't think they are doing any projects like this one at the moment haven't done any like it for quite some time....

If they undertook such a project I'd be as supportive.

How since Mr. Fitzpatrick IS DOING IT and given his track record, I'm sure he'll do it justice.

Yes, the Tribute team with Bill Stromberg would do an excellent job based upon their Herrmann recordings if they still recorded. Their '451' recording is among the best ever. The Intrada recording of Jason and the Argonauts is also quite good. All that said I'm sure that the Tadlow team will do a bang up job with Obsession.

Both Tadlow and Tribute have given us fabulous rerecordings.

Bottom line: many Herrmann admirers just would buy Stromberg, Raine, Prague, Moscow, London, whatever the hell. Even if they release it all the same day. It never was called Obession for nothing smile

He also mentioned that "another label" will release the original tracks. I wonder who that will be?

I wonder who it will be, and if it will be complete or not. But Juergen is correct that the score has its obsessive fans. I hope that Jim Doherty hears this news.

THE BRIDE WORE BLACK
TWISTED NERVE

These two scores really, really need a complete re-recording.

Yes, and so do IT'S ALIVE and ON DANGEROUS GROUND. But OBSESSION is the holy grail, to me.

That's true; it's been a couple years since their last Herrmann release, but I still hold out hope. James found funding for more recordings though Luc at Prometheus. Maybe Bill Anna and John will finally get hired by Intrada as Doug hinted at some years back...
