Got me thinking Zap and I came up with this one from the much missed Mr Palmer...
Timmer, I have literally never heard of that song or film before. Neat. The Palmer songs I recall really liking (from my VH1 days) are "Addicted to Love" and "Simply Irresistible." I also knew "I Didn't Mean to Turn You On" and the Power Station song "Some Like it Hot," but those didn't do it for me.
I watched BEACH BLANKET BINGO last July 4th and couldn't get this song out of my head for two days. I wouldn't call it a great song, kind of kitsch, but Donna Loren is still singing it to this day.
While likely considered a throwaway song for a throwaway (if fun and campy) movie, I like (The) Green Slime by Richard Delvy. Don’t know much about its origin other than what Randy Nauert stated in his comments, but apparently some well-known artists worked on this. Taking into account Delvy’s considerable talent (having him write for this film seems like having NASA build a bottle rocket for you) I imagine he likely scratched this one off quickly, but when you listen to the lyrics it compares well with the protest and topical songs of its day (1968). Replace a few words and this song could have been a cautionary tale about any danger, really. Give it a listen and a chance!
Open the door, you’ll find the secret. To find the answer is to keep it. You’ll believe it when you find, Something screaming ‘cross your mind; Green Slime!
What can it be what is the reason? Is this the end to all that we’ve done? Is it just something in your head? Would you believe it when you’re dead? Green Slime! Green Slime!
Man has looked out to space in wonder, For thousands of years. Sometimes thinking that life could be somewhere, And now, now it’s here!
What can it be what is the reason? Is this the end to all that we’ve done? Is it just something in your head? Would you believe it when you’re dead? Green Slime! Green Slime! Green Slime! Green Slime!
I know this is terribly old-fashioned, but what the heck. Lucille Ball's MAME had its flaws, but there was one song written especially for that film called LOVING YOU, and I loved it and just found it on youtube.
The Debbie Reynolds version of "Dominique" as sung in the 1966 movie THE SINGING NUN, based on the story of Soeur Sourire. The soundtrack has never appeared on CD.
"What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life?" from THE HAPPY ENDING (1970) has been covered by many singers. Here is the original film version sung by Michael Dees. (Music by Michel Legrand; Lyrics by Alan and Marilyn Bergman).
