FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

VARÈSE SARABANDE RECORDS TO RELEASE SOUNDTRACK FOR
FURY

Featuring The Original Score by Academy Award®-Winner Steven Price

(October 3, 2014– Los Angeles, CA) – Varèse Sarabande Records will release the FURY – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally and on CD October 14, 2014. The soundtrack features original score by the 2014 Academy Award® Winning composer Steven Price (GRAVITY).

"I remember having a chat with David [Ayer, director] on set and we discussed how no one had really shown the war [World War II] how it really was. He was incredibly accurate with every detail on this film,” said Price. As a result, “the music needed to be honest and true. He wanted the audience to feel; to feel frightened when it was appropriate and give the feeling that life could end just like that."

Steven Price is an Oscar® winning composer and musician who previously worked as an award-winning music editor. Price won the Academy® Award for Best Score for Alfonso Cuarón’s GRAVITY. Price is currently nominated for both Discovery of the Year and Composer of the Year at the World Soundtrack Awards held in Gent, Belgium in October. Price has written additional music for films including PIRATE RADIO and SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD, collaborating with Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich. Price also scored 2013’s THE WORLD’S END, directed by Edgar Wright, with whom Price collaborated with on SCOTT PILGRIM. Price has also written music for several productions on major UK television networks. His accolades include the International Film Music Critic’s Association award for his original ATTACK THE BLOCK score, for which he also received several film festival awards.

"I sought to honor the characters' bravery; to create a score that was honest and true,” said Price of his score for FURY. “At the same time, for a film accurately portraying mechanized warfare, the score needed to be primal and guttural. We used armory and weaponry as instruments to give a sense of a constant grinding forward whilst the orchestra carried the emotion."

April, 1945. As the Allies make their final push in the European Theatre, a battle-hardened army sergeant named Wardaddy (Brad Pitt) commands a Sherman tank and her five-man crew on a deadly mission behind enemy lines. Outnumbered and outgunned, and with a rookie soldier thrust into their platoon, Wardaddy and his men face overwhelming odds in their heroic attempts to strike at the heart of Nazi Germany.

“There's a real mechanized feel to the score, the music is heavy treading,” said Price. There are very heavy rhythms in the action sequences that keep trucking along and, amongst that, you get these emotional reactions that draw you in."

Columbia Pictures presents FURY, in theaters on October 17, 2014. The FURY - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack from Varèse Sarabande Records will be available digitally and CD on October 14, 2014.

While I am looking forward to seeing this film and hearing it's score, I thought, after Band Of Brothers and Saving Private Ryan, true veterans agreed that those features had captured things pretty much how they went down. Not sure what Price is saying there, esp as Fury looks and feels like the above two as well.

I suspect this score is going to split opinion. It is not your typical WW2 score, to say the least. Anyway, I wrote a review of the album, if anyone's interested:
