I listend to, let's just say, a lot more of the score than you could normally, recently. The score, for me, is a mixed bag. On the one hand it's full of interesting ideas, unique colors, and a strong theme. But on the other hand it's all over the place, the theme is rarely used, some ideas that seem prominent just dissapear, and there's barely a cue that's a cohenrent listne from start to finish. There's probably a wealth of material to make some fantanstic suties out of though; that was my intent (but I've shelved it for a reason I can't go into). I was struck, however, by the little similarities to Christophe Beck's work on "Buffy the Vamprie Slayer", here and there. Indeed, they know each other and Beck has worked on at least one of his passed scores. And then there's what I assume is the main title, which features the same vocalist singing in the same unique style Beck employed in an episode that came out in the same year as the film ("Restless"); I don't know when both were recorded so I don't know precisely who brought that to the table first, but given the little vague familiarities to Beck's work, I'm inclined to say he may have had a little more than a helping hand in this score. For a modern score, I'd say it deserves expanding, especially since some of the alternates are interesting in their own and there are so many ideas and colors present that a truncated album just can't give the score it's proper due.
