I decided to put one extra thread for the performance part of this event (the music part begins at 14:22) to give full justice to:

Maegan McConnell

Tom Griep

Bruce Kimmell

...and thanks to Kaya Savas for this video.

Well, Henry, that was really special. I really wish I could have been there. Thanks for having it preserved and kudos abounding to the presenter and the performers.

As far as having a film music birthday event goes, that's the way to do it!

That was fun Henry! Thanks for sharing and great job by all the participants. Bruce hosting, Tom on piano and Maegan were wonderful!

Thanks and as much work as I put in conceiving of this thing, it was Maegan who brought it to life (listen to how many vocal styles she masters here). Tom who made it all work and did really nice renditions on the instrumentals (we had to knock down on a couple of vocals because ALL of this great stuff was new and had to be learned for this show). And Bruce polished it, made it flow and kept it fun.

I have found myself playing this thing again and again because a number of these are now my preferred versions of these songs!

Any video with a nice performance of "Tomorrow is the Song I Sing" is a fine video by my standards.

...two little things... a big thank you to Tom Griep for getting the "takedown" done (no one had the sheet music) of Tomorrow is the Song I Sing from BALLAD OF CABLE HOGUE. This sounded wonderful to me. And even though I knew Bruce had a voice from his many shows I think this was the most impressive use of it on LOVE WITH THE PROPER STRANGER. Two more bravos for these guys.

I was going to stop bumping this because I figured everyone has seen it who wants to see it. And as much effort as all who worked on it put into it, it seemed pretty egocentric dwelling on it too much. After all I am like every fan out there who loves his favorite composers and wants the work played again and again.

But giving it more thought I said no, that isn't entirely it. The point I make in the middle of the video is important and I wish to reinforce it. It is not just my favorites but every composer I can think of that originally got my attention with melody. Miklos Rozsa (EL CID), Hans Zimmer (DRIVING MISS DAISY), Victor Young (AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS), Ernest Gold (EXODUS), Francis Lai (A MAN AND A WOMAN), James Horner (GLORY), Henry Mancini BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S, Alfred Newman (HOW THE WEST WAS WON), Mikis Theodorakis (Z), Danny Elfman (BATMAN), Ron Goodwin (633 SQUADRON), Franz Waxman (TARAS BULBA), Ramin Djawadi (GAME OF THRONES), Alex North (CLEOPATRA) and the endless list of practitioners of this art led me to other forms of music through my introduction of them with a melody. AND that my little coterie of favorites, including Elmer and Jerry, wrote more of those melodies than many other composers combined. I could have done 10 of these shows and not run out of material.

Thanks, I'm glad it was fun for all.

I am actually getting ideas for another one, based on my budgetary and other considerations.
