Sorry to hear this unfortunate news. Duhamel was a daring composer with a strong musical voice. I wasn't aware that he studied with Messiaen, but I can't say I'm surprised to learn that he did.
From the linked obituary: "Godard..., according to Duhamel, taught him 'how we use music.'"
AD was one of many born in 1925 (the Pierre Boulez generation) who spearheaded the post-WWII serialism.
Mikis Theodorakis is another who studied in France during the 1950s with Olivier Messiaen. I recall reading that Theodorakis was roommate with Iannis Xenakis in 1955.
There is a lot of music by Duhamel that remains unreleased. I understand Duhamel co-authored (along with Pierre Jansen) a score for a D.W. Griffith silent movie which I very much would love to hear.
These are the only two CDs of Monsieur Duhamel's works I own. Not enough to be sure, but more than sufficient to convince of his great talent.
Two works come to mind: PIERROT LE FOU - in particular a cue titled Pierrot
and DOMICILE CONJUGAL which combines familiar Mendelsohn strains with an almost Stravinskian beat and energy that leaves one simultaneously baffled and delighted,
I have 8 CD's by Antoine Duhamel in my collection. Next to some titles already mentioned here - such as the Godard and Truffaut films - I have always been very fond of his score for The Sailor from Gibraltar, unfortunately unreleased in any form. Beautiful music and an interesting film.

ToneRow, you can listen to really long excerpts of the Duhamel/Jansen score for Griffith's INTOLERANCE by scrolling down on this website to the "Suite Symphonique" and then clicking on the "Extraits musicaux": http://www.zzproductions.fr/bonus.htm#

Thanks for letting us know, Stefan.
I listen to these 3 selections over the weekend, and the composition exceeds my expectations (which were rather high to begin with).
