A regular morning routine (non-working days): I will choose the first piece of music (perhaps a second if both are short) and then my better-half will take control of the server(s) and choose four or five pieces to follow. It sure helps my concentration trying to identify her choices!
So, this morning, I started with Bernard Herrmann's The Snows of Kilimanjaro (Stromberg/MSO) - far from great but pleasant enough whilst consuming the first cup of tea ... (and seeking to shake off the hangover ) ...
... to be followed by my lady wife's choices:
- Mozart's Serenade No.06 for orchestra in D major, K239 "Serenata notturna" [Davis/PO] ... I identified the composer but doubt I could ever identify the piece, lovely though it is
- Elmer Bernstein's Far from Heaven ... I initially guessed The Deep End of the the Ocean, oh well ...
- Bohuslav Martinu's Duo for Violin and Cello [Heifetz/Piatigorsky] ... first play of this new purchase ... not a hope of identifying it (I tried a guess of Schoenberg since it was very discordant!) ..
- Jerry Goldsmith's Fierce Creatures ... she said she knew I'd identify it very quickly but she had decided that she wanted to hear the score
- and now: it sounds very much like Handel and perhaps his Water Music but as I have several recordings of the suites and selections therefrom I could be on the wrong track ...
Ah, the simple pleasures in life. No wonder I rarely get anything done around the house.

Great prescription for a hangover - a cuppa and Herrmann!
