Yep - nobody's going to back down or change their view, the discussion isn't getting anywhere and I'm not going to condemn anyone because we all have our different levels of tolerance.

Wow. You rarely see thread-crapping this persistent.
That alone has to be worth something, somewhere.

Maybe it's all about the shifting of attention. One never knows.

Newspapers like the NYT are journalistic organs. And their critical edge is NOTHING compared to such as 'E.J.Thribb's' obituary column in 'Private Eye' where it's understood that the jester needs a space.

This however was a thread devoted to a deceased person by a fan. It therefore resembles more the obit column of the 'personals' section where nobody'd dream of such.

We're both spoiling this thread with this. You-never know: Joan might be reading it somewhere.

That's me going for the laat word again, doncha know. I dislike being called a smut lover by the way.

My sister, who is a psychologist, is staying with me and we've discussed this matter. She noted that Joan Rivers had significant issues with aging and had a kind of body dysmorphia, and that perhaps her language choices had something to do with wanting to remain "young" and "relevant".

"If you're channeling Freud, tell him I want my money back."
-------

R.I.P. Joan Rivers. You were right there with Phyllis Diller as comedy's greatest "broad."
