It's come to my attention recently that Dave Grusin's superb ON GOLDEN POND is the only Oscar nominated score from 1981 to not get a recent CD release. I also discovered today that is been a whopping 15 years since it was first released on CD (LINK DELETED)!! What has been keeping this great score from getting another mainstream release?

It must be a boot (?)
I don't recall a CD being announced over the usual channels.
I've been after this score and THE CHAMP for ages now (a two-fer would be perfect).
I always wonder if removing the dialogue will harm the playability.
Like WarGames, I really liked the whole album experience (you old poop) wink

It is indeed not a legit release.

I'm also really looking forward to both On Golden Pond and The Champ. A twofer would never happen given the differences in ownership.

Doug Fake at Intrada said over a year ago that they have a very popular Grusin score in the works, so it's possible that On Golden Pond is it. As for how to present it, I imagine that both the original album and dialogue-free score would be included.

KCM, the link you posted has been deleted. We do not want to promote a b**t, intentionally or unintentionally. No harm done, just making you aware of why it's gone.

Any new Grusin releases would be most welcome, ON GOLDEN POND being one of the most obvious. Also MURDER BY DEATH, MY BODYGUARD (as improbable as I've heard that is), ABSENCE OF MALICE, TEQUILA SUNRISE and THE GOODBYE GIRL just to name a few.

MY BODYGUARD would totally make my millennium. What IS the story behind this score by the way?

You mean the story of why My Bodyguard hasn't been released? Missing tapes has been an issue.

Missing tapes has been an issue.

Similarly, apparently only half of "Murder by Death" is extant. At least, at last report.

That would be perfect. The dialogue on the album is so a part of my listening to that score, that to have both presentations would be perfecto!

Still, a legit release of THE CHAMP would also be very welcome!

God I hope not. I certainly won't buy it if it comes with the dialog-laden original album.

Apologies in advance for derailing the thread a bit for what may be a silly question, but I'm not nearly as educated as most of you when it comes to the development process...I just love the music. But in cases like MY BODYGUARD where the original tapes are apparently either lost or damaged, has a label ever worked with a willing studio and done their best with a good digital copy like Blu-ray to isolate the score, work with it a little more and put it out on CD? Or is that not worth the time/money to achieve good enough quality to attach their name to it? Sort of an unconventional, but legitimate, release...

If it comes with both, hence pleasing all fans of this marvelous score and movie, why would that prevent you from buying it?
