MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 1

ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK---rumored candidates to play Snake Plissken in the long-gestating remake of the 1981 John Carpemter/Kurt Russell movie are Charlie Hunnam (SONS OF ANARCHY), Jon Bernthal (THE WALKING DEAD) and Dan Stevens (DOWNTON ABBEY).
A source said the remake will not focus on Plissken, but on his team, "[It's] more team-based, as Snake Plissken traverses through a treacherous New York landscape with a rogues gallery of criminals who look to leave the island-turned-prison in exchange for the rescue of the captured U.S. President...Plissken’s team consists of Mina, a warzone journalist framed for murder and living in the shadows of New York as a scavenger; Cabbie, a schizophrenic travel guide who serves as comic relief; Gareth, the last surviving member of the President’s security detail who harbors a dangerous secret; and The Brain, Plissken’s former partner-in-crime who left him to die after a botched robbery.”

THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO---Fox pilot underway to revive the superhero series that ran on ABC from 1980-1983. William Katt, Connie Sellecca and Robert Culp starred in the original series. Tawnia McKiernan, daughter of the original's creator, Steven J. Cannell, is a co-producer of the new series.

THE TICK---Amazon is developing a resurrected version of the superhero series that ran on Fox for only nine episodes in 2001-2002. PEOPLE magazine reported star Patrick Warburton "recently inked a deal with Amazon and Sony to reprise his role, with [creator Ben] Edlund producing and writing."

COSMIC MOTORS---Warner Bros./Michael Bay movie underway based on the Daniel Simon book COSMIC MOTORS: SPACESHIPS, CARS AND THE PILOTS OF ANOTHER GALAXY described as, "...the vehicle designs of a far away galaxy called Galaxion where futuristic concepts exist in everyday life. Nine different spaceships, pods, race cars, giant trains, warships and balloons from various planets of the Galaxion system are shown from concept to completion." Simon was the lead vehicle designer for TRON: LEGACY and CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER. Kyle Ward (MACHETE KILLS) will write the script.

BLACK WIDOW---Stan Lee commented on Scarlett Johansson starring in a Black Widow standalone movie, "We haven't made a Black Widow movie but she's been in some of our movies, and she will be featured more prominently as we move forward. And the chances are she will have her own movie because eventually all the superheroes are going to have their own movies. They are already working on Ant-Man, Dr. Strange and the Black Panther and there are others I am not allowed to talk about."

BLADE---a rumor claims Wesley Snipes is returning for the fourth movie in the series for $3 million. Marvel Comics and Walt Disney Pictures currently own the franchise rights.

BATMAN v SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE---Lynda Carter commented on the Wonder Woman costume worn by Gal Gadot in the sequel, "Well, I was missing the red, white and blue, I have to say. Maybe there's a lot more color in it than what we saw in the picture. It's almost impossible to play a superhero anyway. You can't. You just have to play a character that happens to do these amazing things. That's the only way you can do it. And the costumes all take care of themselves, but it was a little more - I'll have to wait and see."

RAVEN ROCK---miniseries underway based on the upcoming book RAVEN ROCK: THE INSIDE STORY OF THE U.S. GOVERNMENT'S PLAN TO SAVE ITSELF. Raven Rock is the massive underground military facility in Pennsylvania which would house the government during a nuclear attack.

JACK IRISH---Fox series underway based on the Australian tv movies which starred Guy Pearce as a former criminal lawyer who becomes a private investigator. The script is by Seamus Kevin Fahey (THE FOLLOWING).

ARROW---Liam Neeson commented on if he has been contacted about returning as villain Ra's al Ghul from BATMAN BEGINS in ARROW, "No, I haven't, I haven't at all. I would, in a heartbeat, if it came my way, yeah, very much so." Also, Amy Gumenick will play Cupid.

AMERICAN GODS---Bryan Fuller commented on his tv series based on the novels, "It's basically the following the events of the books, but expanding those events, and expanding the point of view to go above and beyond Shadow and Wednesday. In that way, as with GAME OF THRONES, there are dozens of characters that you're tracking through the events and that's probably the biggest similarities between the worlds, in that there's a wide variety of characters at play."

Escape From New York could do with a big budget remake. I don't see Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead) as a lead actor, a sidekick or a baddie maybe.

Almost everything in the first post is based on a comic book, or is a remake/reboot....

Well, yeah, there's definitely some selection bias here. d53's more likely to post about properties people are already familiar with or starring big stars than about properties that no one's heard of yet!

Actually I posted the subjects that were the most interesting. I didn't see much else regardless of its origin.
I have no interest in comic book superhero movies, remakes/reboots, prequels/sequels.....but that's where Hollywood's $$$$$$$$$$$ is these days, so that what most of the articles are being written about which is where I get these news posts from.

Five things that have crossed my eyes just in the last couple days: The third film in Fatih Akin's Love, Death and the Devil trilogy is coming soon, following the brilliant Head-On and The Edge of Heaven.

Ramin Bahrani's next movie stars Michael Shannon!

The sequel to Joshua Oppenheimer's documentary The Act of Killing is on its way!

There's a new Peter Bogdanovich flick coming!

Thomas Vinterberg, perhaps the best director to come out of the Dogme 95 crowd, has an adaptation of Far from the Madding Crowd coming.

As I've often said, there's no shortage of stuff out there that's not comics and reboots, even if the clickbait hollywood news sites focus on that stuff. ::shrug::

MASTADGE:

Most of those I've never heard of. One or two I vaguely saw, but I post mainly what I think appeals to the various boards and their members where I post the movie/tv news.
I'm already spending over two hours a day posting the movie/tv news, so time is a limiting factor, too.

Oh, I'm not blaming you at all. I just find it amusing and sometimes annoying that almost every time you post people feel the need to observe and/or complain about how it's all comics and reboots again.

MASTADGE:

I agree. Just for the record, I am not a fan of comic book superhero movies. I groan everyday when I see more news about the endless Marvel movies.......and remakes/reboots, prequels/sequels, zombie plagues and teen-vampires-in-love. Unfortunately, when I look at the entertainment websites to compose the movie/tv thread, that's all I see.

As far as I'm concerned Charlie Hunnam (SONS OF ANARCHY) is the guy for the job.

I loved the original show and the idea of doing a reboot of some sort over 30 years later doesn't trouble me in either case.

I'd like to see what they do with it

Hey Ford, what *I`d* rather they did is just spread the internet lore that their ***totally original*** normal guy gets superpowers tale is a relative of and inspired by Greatest American Hero. I have no particular reverence for the show, I`d just argue that by doing that they avoid all the potential charges of theatrical molestation... all of the baggage that implies when your project is an association of.

Especially in an Age when people chase after licenses so they can ignore crucial traits/points of those licenses ("Geez... that Spiderman stuff in the old comics, its such great work... lets get the license and then CHANGE a whole bunch of shit, shall we???...").
