If anyone lives near Galesburg, IL, the drive-in there is showing Alan Rudolph's Afterglow this weekend. Apparently they haven't been able to get new movies so they're filling out the summer schedule with older films. Afterglow doesn't strike me as typical drive-in fodder (Rudolph's Roadie seems like a better choice). It should be interesting to see what the drive-in audience makes of a film where people spend time sitting in cars rather than crashing them.
Okay, so they ARE projecting 35mm film as a matter of principle. I wish them luck. Collector's privately owned prints, probably. I wish there were such a drive-in near me. I wouldn't miss the chance to see some great old movies projected on a giant screen in 35mm.
