I sort of started this thread in the "Why didn't THE SWARM... Love Theme" thread, but we can add and expand on it here.

Loved the Great Movie Poster One Sheets that featured Boxed Character/Actor photos on them.

THE TOWERING INFERNO was a great one, along with THE SWARM and CAPRICORN ONE from the other thread. Also these usually featuring an Ad or Box below the credits advertising the films Music Soundtrack being available. Please post your favorite Movie Poster One Sheets that featuring Boxed Character/Actor photos!

Funny! Even on the poster, the co-star on the right was "higher up" than the co-star on the left. Just like the text credits in the film. I think this was the film that started this trend, when you had two equally popular stars billing for top credit.

I'm not championing the appearance of floating head and other Photoshop travesties of today, but this poster is a nightmare of design. The type-settings are like a bad puzzle.

CAPRICORN ONE had a cool one too! Interesting how THE SWARM poster above advertised it's Soundtrack and yet CAP ONE didn't.

Quiet different kind of poster I need to say - with photos of actors who DIDN'T appear in actual movie...

The poster for AIRPORT 1975 had actor photos and a soundtrack ad, while the poster for AIRPORT '77 just had the actor photos. I'd post pictures but it's way beyond my limited computer skills.

My favourite movie poster with mini actor photos, which at the time Ponderosa Restaurant was giving away for free with any kid's meal:

Zoob, I did a mashup of all these 'heads in a box' images from epic and disaster movie posters and put them all together into one huge poster, crammed full of faces; but I can no longer find that image, or the thread where I posted it, and I don't have time to do it again -- but it was pretty silly.

Edit: found it!

I think the original Star Trek The Motion Picture poster had the row of heads on the bottom.

I think the original Star Trek The Motion Picture poster had the row of heads on the bottom.

The teaser poster did, the one with an Enterprise design that wasn't yet finalized, but not the theatrical one sheet. Interestingly, Jerry's score credit isn't on that poster. I don't remember how far ahead of the film it came out, but I seem to recall it on the back of comic books as early as spring or summer of 1979. Anyone able to corroborate or correct?

Don't have an image hosting site at the moment but Meteor and The Poseiden Adventure also come to mind.

@ - Accidental Genius: That's the poster I was thinking of Thxs. That was the Phase II Enterprise I believe.

I think Siskel & Bert had something to say about this, or maybe it was just Ebert.

Basically, when the poster showed the little boxes with the stars, it was a bad sign.
With the exception of Superman II, you can generally say all of these movies are fairly deficient in one way or another. There may be some other outliers, but I maintain this to be true.

LOVE IT Dogplant! Dang that's Awesome! So freeken cool buddy! I did a similar cut and past up job in the 70's when I was in college and called the movie IRWIN ALLEN'S THE END OF THE WORLD and everyone was in it! I have to have it somewhere in storage. Everyone from Ricardo Montalban to Al Pacino to Ricky Schroeder to Carol Burnett and dozens more were in my made up production. I even had the insane Mexican Comedian Manwell Loco Valdez in it!

A meteor needs to wipe out Hollywood so we can start over again.

Yes, of course! Had forgotten that. I kinda like that design, actually, though I do prefer the finalized TMP refit design.

Interesting logo here, too. Though once again, the final design is far more fitting.
