This fine score is well worth the upgrade. I much prefer the original to the re-recording, apart from the the obvious sound deficiencies.
I'll look forward to the improved disc.
How far do we have to look forward? Will it be released very soon?

If the stars are in alignment - either Monday or soon thereafter. The sound on this restoration is miraculous - I just couldn't believe it really.

I will order "The Spider" when the Goldsmith CD is released.

Looking forward to this. I have the Intrada re-recording which I always thought was one of those few cases where the re-recording was superior. The samples on FSM's site never did much for me, so hopefully the improved sound will change my opinion on the OST.

Thanks, Bruce!

I really hope you're doing 1500 on this title Bruce...I think a lot of fans will want the upgrade.

Puzzling that out right now - it will definitely be between 12 and 1500. Nothing is really selling like it used to for any of us so I'm wary of doing 1500, but we shall see.

It's Goldsmith. How many Goldsmith CDs have you been stuck with? I think the only one that didn't sell out really fast was his all synth rejected score to Alien Nation, which is certainly far less beloved than Rio Conchos. I'd be shocked if you had trouble moving just 1500 copies of a classic western score by him now in mostly stereo for the 1st time.

But hey, if you underestimate demand I'm sure somebody will rectify it in several years time with a second reissue. smile

What do I know anyway -- it's your investment and Intrada did after all just reissue their version which might have been enough for some Goldsmith fans who don't mind rerecordings. If that hadn't happened...

The man knows what is best for his situation. The label's John Wayne at Fox release featuring Comancheros is still around at only 1000 copies and a $20 price tag. Sure, it doesn't have the slavishly devoted Goldsmith fanbase or greatly improved sound behind it, but it's still a fairly big release as far as reissues go.

Just plan to buy Rio Conchos ASAP and you'll be set for yourself.

You answered your own issue. That wasn't Goldsmith.

Looking forward to hearing what the samples sound like on this one. The FSM version grew on me slowly and I would love to hear the same score in gorgeous stereo.

Well sure, I get that. But just to pull one example off the top of my head, Quartet's 1,000 copy "Studs Lonigan" (a great Goldsmith) hasn't sold out in over three years, after the old Varèse CD went out of print.

And it took Varese about fifteen or twenty years to sell out Studs Lonigan. Neither Poltergeist II or Breakheart Pass were instant sellouts for us - yes, both did sell out within a week, but hardly in a day.

I'll definitely be there release day. And I'm looking forward to the cover art. Kritz usually does some stellar artwork on its booklets.

I had The Spider sitting in a box for around a month before I had time to play it this week. It's a stunning score, and I wish I'd seen the miniseries to see how effective it was with images. I'm usually nervous about buying scores by some composer I have never heard of, but liked the samples, and the music is even better when you hear it complete.

It costs nothing to encourage someone else to spend their money. Are the biggest cheerleaders the ones who buy the fewest cds?

Ha -- my wife wishes I was just a cheerleader. Shall I take a picture of my collection for you? Even though I'm been a poor student for the past couple years and still will be for at least another couple, I am proud to say that I did manage to snag a copy of Bruce's superb new Rio Conchos from SAE after it sold out from Kritzerland (much quicker than the typical release I might add).
