CHILDREN'S FILM FOUNDATION COLLECTION: OUTER SPACE Glitterball | Kadoyng | Supersonic Saucer
Three intergalactic adventures from the archives of the Children's Film Foundation land on DVD for the very first time.
For over 30 years the Children's Film Foundation produced quality entertainment for young audiences, employing the cream of British filmmaking talent. Newly transferred from the best available elements held in the BFI National Archive, these much-loved and fondly remembered films finally return to the screen - after many years out of distribution - in this specially curated DVD release from the BFI.
In the award-winning The Glitterball (1977) two teenage boys try to help a tiny spherical alien get back to its mothership while the army and a devious petty crook pursue the creature for its wonderful powers.
In Kadoyng) it looks as if nothing can stop the village of Byway being demolished to make way for the new motorway - until a mysterious visitor accidentally arrives from Outer Space.
In Supersonic Saucer (1956) a baby supersonic saucer inadvertently arrives from Venus. Adopted by a group of children, it causes many misunderstandings but prevents a robbery from their school.
I have hugely fond memories of Glitterball , because it was filmed in my home town of Hatfield.
A lot of it was shot in the department store Woolco which was Woolworth's attempt to break into large scale mainstream retail. The shop was huge and carried a very wide range (food, clothes, records, cycles, air pistols and even had a huge photographic department).
It was a wonderful store and I have some fabulous memories of going there as a kid (bought my first Spider-Man comic there, also my first home VHS tape which was Jaws).
I've seen bits of Glitterball recently on YouTube but I'll probably get this.
The only CFF serial I can remember is, Five Clues To Fortune with a very young David Hemmings. I used to prefer the old American serials like Flash Gordon & King Of The Rocketmen, but I have happy memories of that one (just), I don't think it's been released on DVD.

I had to go to Stevenage to get my first VHS tape, Alien, I think.
