The original OST recording was one of the best arranged for LP recordings of its day, really well done. The LP was very well sequenced and the finale glorious.

That said, I always felt that the original LP shortchanged a lot of the suspense music Williams wrote for E.T., and I was glad to finally have the expanded release address that issue.

I'm glad to have both and I'm not parting with either one.

I learned over the years never to procrastinate. I've lost some great deals that way.

The original album of Raiders of the Lost Ark doesn't feature the complete Desert Chase. Only the expanded DCC/Silva Screen release does.

You`re absolutely right. I`ve just compared DESERT CHASE from the Silva Screen release with the 4 CD Concord release. Isn`t it weird that this expanded 2008 box set features a shorter version than the 1995 Silva Screen CD?

As a soundquality freak i must say i was overwhelmed back in the days by the original E.T. Japanese cd release which have a DDD recording,

My copy of the OST by MCA says it's AAD. Meaning the score was an analogue recording. So can can it ever be DDD?

Apparently Williams preffered the abridged version. Many of the new tracks almost didnt make it but thanks to Laurent Bozerau we got hold of some great cues.

Whenever I wish to hear E.T. I play the LP over the original CD--much better sound, IMHO.....

I don't remember the exact listing description. Though I do remember it saying it came with artwork etc. I don't recall any description regarding the shape of the artwork or it being in bad condition. Oh well, it's the music I was after regarding this purchase.

Yikes! That sucks, unless the product description was "beat all to hell".

I've never gotten a package in such bad shape. Closest was a recent CD that was listed as "ex library CD" and I didn't realize that meant it came in a big plastic clamshell with the original booklet but no rear liner inlay card artwork grrrrrrrrrrr.

I've purchased a lot used CD's from Amazon over the years and generally have no complaints. (This might be one of two cases where the artwork was in really bad shape.) It looks like it might have been a library renter based on abuse of the paperwork! I have the 20th anniversary in mint, so as long as the tracks play fine on this copy it's good enough.

Edit: Imported the tracks into iTunes and they play perfectly. Mission accomplished!

I take it the U.S and UK releases had different artwork, as my copy isn't like the one pictured?

Is that in fact the original album from 1982? The track listing shows 18 tracks, which I believe is the listing of the 1996 MCA expansion, whereas the original only contains 8 tracks. I know Amazon isn't always accurate when there are multiple versions of an item.

Solium, can you confirm which version of the CD you received?

I've heard the OST. Played it a lot when it was released on LP. Just haven't heard it in a very long time since I picked up the 20th edition. So I'm old too!
