I bought this the FIDDLER ON THE ROOF SPECIAL EDITION 2 DVD SET from Amazon and received yesterday.

The John Williams feature in the Featurettes lasts about 11 minutes and is basically John talking about adapting the Fiddler music for the big screen. He says he always loved the original score and songs by the composers and enjoyed the great challenge to bring it to the big screen. Enjoyed doing his additional music and liked working with director Norman Jewison. There is no scoring session footage or photos of Williams working on the picture, which I was hoping for.

In a feature about the three actresses that played Tevya's daughters, we see them as they look now and in interviews they talk about being cast and mention singing for director Jewison and two of them maybe all three, say "I was brought in to sing for Norman and John Williams!" That was cool.

There is another feature with the deleted song "Any day now!" (audio only) that has the singer for the character played by Starsky or was it Hutch? Can't remember his name now. We hear the recording of this song and you can hear John Williams counting down the orchestra accompanying him. Pretty cool.

This seems to be included in the Blu-ray too:

John Williams: Creating a Musical Tradition (SD; 11:32) focuses on the iconic composer, who acted as adapter, conductor and co-orchestrator of the film version of Fiddler

Did they restore the original UA logo from when the film first came out. I believe it is a original Williams composition for this film, as the final chord is exactly the same as the final chord of the film's end title.

Unfortunately that UA logo has never been on any video version of Fiddler. I think it has something to do with a blanket policy of not having any reference to TransAmerica on any of their releases.

The cue sheet, also unfortunately, is not entirely clear in attributing the logo music to Williams, although that chord certainly sounds like the final chord of the End Titles... which one can only hear on the album as the movie only used the first few seconds of it and then tracked the rest with repeated parts of the "Entr'Acte."

The Blu-Ray transfer is exactly the same as the DVD, just in HD obviously. Also never on any video release is the "Intermission" card. The "Entr'Acte" comes in so abruptly it's nearly impossible to pause your player before the downbeat.

The old laser issue did include the intermission card with a long fade to black.

I seem to remember the Two Tape VHS having the Intermission Card.

Not talking about the freeze frame image with the word "Entr'Acte" on it, but before that - the word "Intermission" in white letters on black (over silence). I'd have to fire up the LD player but I honestly don't ever recall that being on any video release because I've noted it at the 3 or 4 35mm screenings I've been to in recent years.

Where do you see these cue sheets Mike?
Are they available anywhere publically?

After digging out my ancient LD player only to find the disk tray wouldn't open, then digging out my combi LD/DVD player, vacuuming that off, briefly wondering to myself why there wasn't an HDMI output, having my 14-year-old son ask if I was listening to music (because he apparently didn't recall ever having seen an LD before) and then ask if one of the actors in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF was Alan Rickman, I can confirm that the LD did have the Intermission card:

Cool, Jeff! I must not have looked at that version much. Too bad it wasn't carried over to the DVD & Blu-ray.

With all the talk about unreleased (or unexpanded) John Williams scores, I'd love some label to manage to get a 'complete edition' of this soundtrack out, with ALL the underscore JW wrote in cleaned-up sound.
The last anniversary CD did add a few score tracks (some with dialogue) which featured that searing, anguished JW sound found in THE FURY and DRACULA.
Also, his first Oscar score, so there's that too (for posterity).
With Goodbye Mr Chips and Tom Sawyer having finally been given their due, how about this 'classic'.
