I have to say I am extremely disappointed that they are seemingly not adding the rest of the score and will most likely not be buying this one (what makes it even worse is that this is the one release in the new Legacy Collection I was most looking forward to).

I agree. This is disappointing. Now I'm concerned that "The Little Mermaid" won't include the complete score.

My memory is a little rusty ... is anything actually missing? Disc 1 seems to be the same contents as the previously released Walt Disney Records CD. That runs almost 63 minutes, and the film is only 75 minutes.

There is actually a decent amount of music missing from the previous CD (particularly the capture of the Prince, Maleficent going down to the dungeon {which leads into "A Fairy Tale Come True}, and the "Fairies to the Rescue" cue that appeared in abbreviated form on the original soundtrack album found on ITunes*). Some tracks on the last CD are even missing a few elements such as the choral overlays on the prologue and the gong chord in Battle With the Forces of Evil.

*This is another issue I have with this release. Why include only two tracks from that album when they could have included that whole album for those who strictly adhere to physical media but want to have this album?

Lion King included the entire score (as far as I know) so I still have hope Little Mermaid will be significantly expanded. Perhaps no additional elements were found for Sleepy Beauty.

I very much doubt that's the case as I remember Disney making a big deal about finding new music elements when they did the 7.1 remix for the Blu-ray.

Yeah, they definitely have more room to include more music, including the full score. I guess we can't know for sure until we see some track times. With "The Lion King," some some tracks went unnamed and were attached to another track, such as the hula dance number.

That does make it bitter sweet then.

Anyone pick up Sleeping Beauty? Any improvements in sound or content? Can we confirm no additional score tracks? The previous expansion sounds fabulous, so I can't think of a reason to order this unless they expanded the score.

I have not picked it up, though from what I've gathered over at jwfan.com, they did not add any new content. One thing I do know from the clips on Itunes, they didn't even restore the gong chord on "Battle With the Forces of Evil."

This quote on Jwfan.com from someone who did buy it back in October makes the matter even more frustrating

"I finally imported my Sleeping Beauty last night and in the notes it actually says that they had access to the entire scoring and song sessions for the release."

Ugh! Can't figure out the logic here. Thanks for the additional info. Guess I'll pass on this one.

Does anybody have a listing (or know where I can find one) of all demo/outtake songs of "Sleeping Beauty" released on DVD and Blu-Ray? I think there were definitely more than the two tracks featured on disk 2.

It's a shame that we are only getting snippets when there may be material for even a third disk.

If they didn't get to extend CD1 (which they definitely should have!) they should at least have included all extant demos/outtakes as well as the full LP on CD2.

Fortunately, it seems as if the LP has been re-issued on CD in the UK:

The US LP program is available as a download from iTunes.

I quite agree with this. I have the Itunes download of the LP program and there are enough differences between that program and the music as heard in the film (ex. re-recorded vocals [with the exception of Skumps], different edit, etc.) that they could have gotten away with including the whole program.

For those who are interested, here is a list of the music that is still missing on the CD (Note: some of the titles I use for the missing pieces come from Bill Wrobel's analysis of the score

Choral overlays on the Prologue
Harp overlays on The Gifts of Beauty and Song and before True Love Conquers All
"Raise the Child" (comes inbetween The Fairies' Plan and Maleficent's Frustration)
Some flute overlays at the beginning of A Cottage in the Woods as well as "Aurora Sings"
"Fitting the Dress"
Film Version of Blue Bird
"In the Woods"
A few bars preceding Woodland Symphony
"Oh" (two bars of flute during Once Upon a Dream which was actually restored to the film for the 7.1 remix on the Blu-ray)
"Who Are You?"
"Bake a Cake"
"Wild" (Merryweather stopping the mop)
"On the Throne"
"Let's Go"
The Capture of the Prince
Film Version of Fairies to the Rescue
The Dungeon
Gong Chord on Battle with the Forces of Evil

I'm not entirely certain but I think they used alternates on a few cues on the last CD

Many thanks for the listing of missing cues. I just listened to the old disk yesterday - and it sounds marvelous! This really should be issued completely...

As I see that "Pinocchio" will not feature any substantial new material either, I'm really thinking about skipping the CD releases and downloading the lost chords bonus tracks (not really interested in the new recordings).

Any comments on "Fantasia"? Has the Stokowski recording been remastered? The original release didn't sound too great since the remastering goes back to 1990. I wonder if that one has been improved...

Stefan Huber: The original recordings on the Fantasia Legacy Collection (presented on disc one and two) are not an improvement. Granted they are remastered from the 1940 recordings, but the mastering lacks fidelity, clarity and prepare yourself for a lot of awkward panning, tape hiss and other recording anomalies.

The 1982 re-recordings (disc 3 and 4) suffer from the same treatment. Even worse the music lacks dynamic range across the recording stage. This was after all a digital recording... I am surprised at how much is lost due to compression.

Personally the set would have benefitted from another addition (disc 5 and 6) comprised of pristine modern-day re-recordings mastered in SACD, HDCD or other hybrid-multichannel technology.

This release by Disney on the Legacy Collection is more of a miss than a hit.

Ironically, if Intrada had been tasked this, we'd probably be praising the amazing sound and finally having the whole score, 'cause they'd do it properly. Disney does it themselves and you feel like it was done by a highly untrained teem of mouseketeers.

Justin: [Non-Sequitur...] That statement (Intrada vs. Disney) is nowhere to be found in my post.
