Sorry, I didn't see the other post. I've just noticed though that the 'Telstar' tune is VERY similar to the later theme from 'The High Chaparral'. Well I never!

Richard, the free wheeling instrumental section of Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone" does sound a bit like "Telstar" -- so give a listen to "Telstar" and let us know if that's what you are trying to identify. This a link to "Telstar" on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBYdp84AwuU

Instrumentals can be especially difficult to track down. I had an instrumental in my head for a long time, which I heard on the radio constantly, and the annoying DJ would never say the name of the song, or the artist. I wanted to reach through the radio and strangle the guy. Anyway, I finally found out what it was called --- "Pick Up the Pieces" by the Average White Band, if I recall. They actually say that in the background on the recording, but I could never make it out. (ADDED: I think someone told me it might have been in the film "Superman II", when the Super Villains are in the small town bar. But I haven't seen the film in years, and I dont' recall the music from that scene specifically.) Songs that don't say the title are a pain as well. It took me years to find out what The Smiths' song "How Soon Is Now" was called. All I could say to my friends was that it was "that ominous sounding track which sounds like a bus is going by every once in a while". (A lot of good that did.) Anyway, good luck in your search....
