Does anyone know?

Did Randy Edelman ever talk about working with Jean Claude Van Damme on his first directorial job?

Edelman was a hot composer at the time at Universal having done Dragon, Kindergarten Cop, Beethoven films and, I believe was wrapping up Dragonheart at the time.. They needed a solid score by one of their "A" composers so he got the gig. It's not always up to the director. The studio usually has a bigger say as to who composes what, especially if it's a film from a newbie (despite Jean Claude's pedigree as an actor).

It was a good choice

Yes, you're probably right about the studio thing. Perhaps we have a tendency to overestimate the director's power about those things.

Not to change the subject but 1996 Down Periscope had a great score by Edelman.

A little comedy and action music. Maybe LLL?

I think only Paul Hertzog is able to make a very good score for a Van Damme action movie.

Perhaps.

I think Gary Chang wrote some good stuff to both Death Warrant and Double Team though.

No, I am afraid not. These comedy scores just don't sell (no matter how great some of them are).

Sorry

That's only my opinion (IMHO). wink
I love mr Hertzog's scores, and I don't like all the other Van Damme scores (except for Harris' No retreat no surrender, good music, but stupid film).

John Debney's Sudden Death is an excellent action score to a movie starring JCVD, would like to see that one expanded.
