i found a tape of the old cbs show of beauty and the beast. it's music and poerty. it's one of those darken room with candel light, type thing's
it's odd to hear hell boy reading poetry of robert frost - lord byron, shelley and shakespeare.
it's old school at its best.
You must have found BEAUTY AND THE BEAST: OF LOVE AND HOPE. I have the CD and it's pretty great. Perlman's readings mesh perfectly with the superb music cues.
That CD will always remind me of my Summer in Los Angeles 1989. The Tower Records on Sunset Blvd (I was staying in the Hyatt Hotel not far from it) had some big promo posters/cards all around the shop and outside for it. It took me awhile to get over my initial disappointment of having the Lee Holdridge music obscured by the poetry readings, but now I think it works beautifully (plus there was a 'promo' CD that came later with the dialogue removed, so win/win)
One of my favorite CBS stories is when I spoke to a woman who had called to tell us how much she loved BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. She and her husband were artistic director and costumer at a local theater and they had recreated the costumes of Catherine and the Beast. In fact, she continued, they made love AS Catherine and the Beast. This was more than I wanted to hear!
