WEDNESDAY, JULY 16 AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON---spoiler alert (see below). THE DEEP BLUE GOOD-BY---Christian Bale is in talks to star in this movie based on the Travis McGee novel which is intended to be the first of a 20th Century Fox franchise. The plot has McGee seeking a hidden treasure that was stolen by a GI during World War II. James Mangold, who directed Bale in 3:10 TO YUMA, is the director. The script is by Dennis Lehane (MYSTIC RIVER) and Scott Frank (MINORITY REPORT). PLANET OF THE APES---director Matt Reeves commented on if the next sequel will be directly connected to the original 1968 movie that starred Charlton Heston, "I think some people assume that we're going to get back to the '68 film, like, next. And actually… no. And if this is Caesar's story, and the story of the mythic character that he becomes, then as we know in the apes timeline, Caesars begat other Caesars, and it's a generational story. This is an epic journey toward the trajectory of that story. It could be many movies. I think there are a lot of interesting stories that come, not only from Caesar, but from what comes after Caesar, his children, and his children's children. What happens when humans return? All of those stories… it's so rich. And I think that it's so cool that we know how it ends without knowing how we get there. Because that becomes the fuel for these stories. So it's not going to be next, for sure. We are going to take a while to get there." AIR---photo released from the Robert Kirkman (THE WALKING DEAD) movie starring Norman Reedus (THE WALKING DEAD) and Djimon Hounsou (GLADIATOR). Set in an abandoned ICBM silo after an environmental apocalypse, they play two technicians who are revived every six months to monitor sleep tanks containing people who will repopulate the Earth. However, one of them hides a dark secret. THE CRUSADERS---Spike TV miniseries underway starring Pierce Brosnan. The plot follows two Scottish knights during the Third Crusade after Saladin has conquered Jerusalem. The writers/executive producers are Oscar-winner David Franzoni (GLADIATOR) and Michael Finch (PREDATORS). THE FANTASTIC FOUR---Kate Mara, who plays Sue Storm in the reboot movie, said it won't be based directly on the comic book, "I've never been a fan of comics, I've never actually read one. I was going to for this movie but the director said it wasn't necessary. Well, actually he told us that we shouldn't do it because the plot won't be based on any history of anything already published. So I chose to follow his instructions. The one fact is I am a fan of comic book movies, so it's very exciting to be part of a movie like this. I don't feel more responsibility with this role that I've felt with others. I understand that there are many fans of The Fantastic Four and I guess they expect a lot from me, but I prefer not to be pressured by that." GAME OF THRONES---the five directors for Season 5 were announced: David Nutter (GAME OF THRONES), Michael Slovis (BREAKING BAD), Mark Myland (SHAMELESS), Jeremy Podeswa (BOARDWALK EMPIRE) and Miguel Sapochanik (FRINGE). Also, Keisha-Castle Hughes will reportedly play one of the Sand snakes. THE STRAIN---the FX vampire series premiere drew an impressive 3 million viewers which tied the audience for THE LAST SHIP. JRR TOLKIEN---two biomovies are underway. TOLKIEN & LEWIS is about Tolkien's relationship with CS Lewis. Simon West (THE EXPENDABLES 2) is the director. TOKIEN has a script by David Gleeson. * * * * * * * * AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON---Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios, commented on the sequel, "Last time we saw Stark Tower, from The Avengers, it had gotten beat up a little bit thanks to Hulk and thanks to Loki and the Chituari, and Pepper and Tony were standing over a table looking at plans. That's where we pulled out and all the letters had fallen away except the 'A' in Stark. So what they were doing was retro-fitting for The Avengers. And that's what we see in this next film. "S.H.I.E.L.D. is gone – for people who are following along. S.H.I.E.L.D. was disbanded and brought down at the end of The Winter Soldier because it turned out to not be the best organisation ever. So Tony's bank-rolling The Avengers now. And he's bank-rolling their headquarters. So it's now Avengers Tower. Tony designed it so in addition to a hanger for a brand-new Quinjet, laboratories, places where he can build and store his Iron Man suits, there are I believe two bars. Beautiful multiple space living rooms which are perfect for parties and social gatherings. But it’s a primary location in the film this time around."

So, the re-imagined thing. Not a reboot. Explains how the Human Torch is black now. Scorched....maybe?
