I thought it was simply my local rural post-office that had just become 'slower'. But after a while I realized I wasn't getting my usual Saturday dvd until Monday; and since most holidays fall on Monday - then Tuesday. Netflix is earning more profits with this and the subscribers who want dvd's are losing. What irks me is that Netflix did not announce this to it's members.
Yep, cutting jobs but raising rates. It's how it goes. Though I will say thus far I am very happy with Netflix streaming.
I tried the streaming. For most folks, I think they love it. It's just not for me, mainly because of what I seek to view - it's not available to stream. Foreign films, documentaries, new releases, little independent films, BBC materials that aren't license-restricted etc. The majority of what Netflix offers is still available only on dvd.

True the steaming service is very limited. Thus far there's enough content that keeps me interested. I have a hundred titles in my streaming query. Mostly old 70's and 80's shows that I am revisiting for the first time since their original broadcast.
But back on topic, yes your getting less for more while Netflix profits.
This is annoying to hear. I have both streaming and blu ray / DVD rental because I like to watch movies on the blu-ray when possible. The streaming service works great for me but I use a combination of both.
Netflix seems to have total contemp for both the DVD and Blu Ray markets. I guess before long they are both going to be history and streaming will now be the norm whether we want it or not. I also understand there will be less piracy due to permanent streaming.

There is already less piracy due to that ridiculous DRM they install on Blu Rays that prevents most people from watching Blu Ray Rips on their home theater setup.
So . . . the latest thing or a local problem? I don't know, but ever since the new year it has been taking my Netflix discs a day longer to arrive than it used to. At the very beginning of the year I assumed it was because of the snow, but that hasn't been an excuse for over a week. Is the local post office gumming the works or has Netflix closed some shipping centers or what? Has anyone heard anything about why things might be running more slowly this year?

In 2015, USPS will be closing 82 Mail Processing & Distribution Centers. Closures started in the first week of January. Those packages being sent Parcel Post and Media Mail will likely be the most impacted with longer transit times. These 82 processing centers account for about 25% of all centers currently in production. USPS is already resetting delivery expectations based on these closures.
