WEDNESDAY, JULY 9

GAME OF THRONES---George RR Martin replied to fans who think he's writing too slowly to complete the novel series and will die before it's finished, “I find that question pretty offensive, people speculating about my death and my health. I say f*ck you to those people.”
Martin said he has had talks to end the tv series with a theatrical movie, "I would love that... If we go seven or eight seasons and then the show is still big enough that we can get the $200 million to finance a huge epic movie to end it...but that doesn’t mean it has been approved. Some people like the idea. Other people don’t like the idea."
The tv series costs $60 million to $70 million per season, but Martin said that's, "still nothing to what Peter Jackson spends on a LORD OF THE RINGS movie or what any of these big, epic science fiction or fantasy movies have to spend. To go out with something big like that would be amazing... The show looks great on a big screen, I mean a really big screen. It has cinematic values already."

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY - turd of the year.

LOL. I was going to do a movie review because I've seen enough in the extended trailer. What a loud obnoxious piece of...

Starlord is like that moron at work or school who keeps making jokes, but has no idea he isn't the least bit funny. Then that raccoon whom does its Baby Herman impersonation- obnoxious. Yeah it sucks.

I can't be the only one who, everytime I see more pictures, thinks this looks like utter crap.

Yeah, I might be off on this one, but I am usually pretty accurate in my guess on the quality and success of these things. This movie looks like a mess, and too obnoxious and odd to be popular.

It might be too odd to be popular, but I for one am delighted Marvel isn't just going the safe route and giving us more of the regular superheroes, but is instead taking a risk on a bent, offbeat title like this one. To me, this sort of thing is the best way to expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the sort of thing that's ideal for keeping things fresh and creative.

I love the oddity and quirkiness and defiant, anarchic audacity of actually devoting one of their precious summer tentpole production/release slots to something like this. Moreover, given the way people at this forum take such pains to clamor for movies that aren't just the same-old, same-old, I'm frankly a little surprised so many of you are clearly rooting for it to fail. At least it looks creative and daring. Of course, I'm also aware that at the end of the day it is still an expensive! effects-filled popcorn spectacle and that's exactly the sort of thing so many here love to draw their knives for, with little regard for whether a movie might at least be one of the better examples of such, but still.

So...you don't want the chowder?

And I think GUARDIANS looks like a hoot. I was quite impressed with James Gunn's SUPER, so I have a good feeling about this one.

God! Ridley Scott's gone Biblical! (Well, let's just see how well his EXODUS does, before we jump the gun, and make yet another David movie...)

As for George R. R. Martin, well, if you don't want people to speculate about whether or not you'll die before finishing the damn thing, then just finish the damn thing, and get it over with. But, he seems to be more interested in writing scripts and managing production, and being a celebrity. But, especially considering what appears to be him appearing in his photos as overweight bordering on obese, the people speculating about his longevity may have a point... A point I may tend to agree with, especially considering there have been years in between the previous installments, despite repeated grandiose announcements about imminent publication. We shall see....

I'm not rooting for its failure, it's just my expectations. I don't think there's anything original about it. A walking talking tree (LOTRs) An anthropomorphic talking animal, (POTA's) A space cowboy, (Star Wars) a few nondescript super hero types, (Any of the recent 15 superhero films released) Aliens, (Star Wars/Star Trek). It looks like Star Wars, Star Trek, Avengers, Planet Of the Apes, Firefly, Lord of the Rings all rolled up into one. But if ppl enjoy that's fine. wink

I missed this from the original post. I HATE the look of Disney's live action/CGI films. The CGI is so grey, muddy and cheap looking. (Alice In Wonderland, Maleficent, etc.)

Yup! This caught my attention too.

This is from Bernard Cornwell's novels right?

I can't speak for or against Maleficent but Burton's Alice In Wonderland made me want to take a Black & Decker power drill and immediately upon leaving the theater trepan myself in the forehead to release all the evil in my skull from how god-f*cking-awful that entire production was.
