Skrillex and dubstep in general certainly don't find their target audience in this reactionary forum, so I'm not surprised by the badmouthing in this thread (although I doubt many have heard the music at all).

I don't have a dog in this particular fight, but I was grooving to groups like Einsturzende Neubauten and their contemporaries before a lot of you young whippersnappers were even born! And I suspect quite a few of us old fogeys here did as well (not necessarily that group in particular, but any others just as seemingly outside the circle of what would be considered commercial).
ETA: The Missus loves dubstep. She's 55 and most girls half her age can only DREAM of keeping up with her on the dancefloor.

It is only four tracks, but according to the Steve Jablonsky Official Facebook page: "This is just a teaser, it was the best way to get something out there quickly. These four tracks are exclusive to the EP, they are theme pieces I wrote early on. The score album will have different material (including variations on these themes), and will have more than four tracks No official release date yet."

This EP is a nice tease, as the new themes which Jablonsky sets up in "Hunted" and "Tessa" are very rousing and fit right within his wheelhouse when he is firing on all of his cylinders. "Lockdown" is also a very cool track, but loses a bit of steam when the more dubstep-appropriate sequence hits later on. I listened to the Imagine Dragons song which was created for the film and found it atrocious, lyrically dead and a poor sound mix. That said, Jablonsky's use of those same lyrics and the melody in "Hunted" really improved the band-released single.
Ep was surprisingly not terrible, although wtf are these lyrics doing in ma score tracks
'Lockdown' reminded me of the midsection of 'Terraforming' from Man Of Steel, which slightly dampened my enthusiasm. I look forward to the full release anyway!

So to recap, for those interested, a four-track EP has been released on iTunes, and the 77-minute, 23-track score has also been released on iTunes. The tracks on the EP are bonus material, theme suites not on the official release.
Damn, the EP was mildly diverting but the full score is just the same old same old. These later scores have none of the fun of Jablonsky's first. They sound more like the "epic" trailer music style of X-Ray Dog and the like. Just very predictable and uninspired, and takes itself way too seriously

The Transformer's scores have always been guilty pleasures of mine, I hesitated on the last one waiting for a lossless release, and the day I caved in, I discovered that it was no longer available. So I think I'll just download this one, and if I really think it enough I'd buy a lossless release if it ever surfaces. It isn't like I haven't done this MANY times before I've bought dozens of CDs in the past and then later buy newer reissues for the improved sound quality (Warriors of Virtue), so there's no need to be hypocritical here.

Its prevalence is becoming a bit too much -- even for a EDM fan like myself -- but when it's done well, like in SPRING BREAKERS, it's bloody brilliant.
It will be interesting to hear how this will sound in TRANSFORMERS, whether it's straightout or more organic, like in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2.
Oh...come on...Skrillex...that is just too good to pass up, it actually does sound like a brand of bathroom and tile cleaner.
Actually I know very well who Skrillex is, but just don't care for that type of music. I love electronic music and dance music but don't care for the modern electronic dance thing.
That being said, listening to the score, what the heck did Skrillex contribute ( aside from keeping the restrooms lemon fresh ) ? There are a few electronic buzzes and blarts ( not trashing that sound, but really that's the best way to describe them ) that don't sound at all like the usual Jablonsky / Transformers sound... they are more accents to the score, effects, not melody or motif. Maybe his contributions are in the score sections not featured on the album. But, to me it seems the released score is basically the usual Transformers score sound, with some more jagged electronic effects laid in as stingers or accents.
The score overall... yes in in the usual Transformers style, and it IS a generous album but so far it isn't as engaging as the previous scores. As The Projectionist said, these scores have been real guilty pleasures of mine too, and they're enjoyable, full of energy, but this one feels less cohesive... maybe because there are more shorter tracks.
Also, the temp love for Mind Heist rears its ugly head again. It isn't the almost note for note riff from the Dark Of The Moon score, but it is there.
If you enjoyed the previous albums, you'll probably like this one, but it isn't a home run like Dark Of The Moon.
And for the record, I loved the modern sound on Zimmer's Spiderman score, so I ain't a hater

My homework assignment for this weekend: finish signing a couple hundred copies, which will be available on La-La Land's website as well as a handful of randomly signed ones going out to whatever places still sell CDs. So if you get a copy that has some weird black scribble on it, that's probably my signature.

Whoa! Cool news! I haven't seen or heard the score for Age of Extinction yet, but I enjoyed Jablsonsky's work on the earlier Transformers films (1 & 2, specifically) and would be willing to go blind on this one.
Of course, this news also begs the natural question: does this open the possibility of expansions for Jablonsky's Transformers trilogy? Not trying to jump the gun or anything, just saying what must surely be on everyone's minds.
