Mine arrived yesterday. Discs 1 and 3 appear to be identical to Discs 1 and 2 from the previous 2-disc set.

That's disappointing for sure.

The music is of course as magical as ever but I was really hoping for something new besides demos and new recordings.

Hopefully future volumes of The Legacy Series take the route of The Lion King versus being more of a rehash like this one.

If you don't have the previous release, this comes highly recommended for sure but if you do have it, I can't see a compelling reason to pick up this edition. I already have the next entry in the series on pre-order. I really hope it's done as well as The Lion King was.

Thanks for the information. It seems like "Sleeping Beauty" will be a disappointing release as well based on the track listing, which is a shame because it's such a beautiful score with some notable music missing from the current album. I just hope "The Little Mermaid" has the complete score and not only demos and unused songs. Demos can be interesting to hear once or twice, but they never end up on my playlist.

Thanks for the info about 'One Man Band'. It is a real pity because I find the bit where Bert breaks off from his comments about his audience and observes that the "Wind's in the east, mist coming in...|" etc sets the scene for the story really well.

Oh well, I've saved some money not buying this one!

As I don't own previous editions, does this include the score by Sherman brothers?

Is the Mary Poppins complete score by the Sherman brothers released?

Won't be picking up this one based on the comments/feedback. I'm still confused as to why this was the second title chosen in this collection, especially if they are just rehashing material from the previous release. There is a TON of other Disney films that they could have expanded on. The Lion King release was excellent so I'm hoping the Mermaid edition will be worth it. I'd be up for expansions on all the major Menken works.

It is most definitely a disappointment. Then again we are used to be milked by Disney for the same stuff over and over again. Remember that most of the stuff that will appear on these new CDs has readily been available on Japanese CDs for 20 years or so.

I just hope that we will one day get a complete "Mary Poppins" - along with "My Fair Lady", "West Side Story" and other candidates. Just wishful thinking...

Let's see if "Fantasia" will have "Clair De Lune" wink

I'm assuming the LC set was released on August 26 since the film was originally released on August 26, 1964.

I'll pick up the next couple in this series but not much more if it continues to be like this Mary Poppins release. A total disappointment, though knowing the tracklist before I pre-ordered, I wasn't surprised.

This Legacy series has SO much potential and The Lion King really had my expectations set high that Disney would do this series right. With Mary Poppins and what it appears Sleeping Beauty will be, we're back to rehashes of stuff we already had.

I really sincerely hope that the titles after Sleeping Beauty are more like The Lion King was. If so, I will enthusiastically pre-order every single title. If they're like this one though, forget it. I'm done. I have no interest in rebuying the same things over and over if there's no "real" new content outside of demos, etc.

Come on, Disney!! Do it right!! If you can't or won't, let Intrada do it for you.

I don't have any of the Disney albums from pre-Little Mermaid era, so these are all-new to me smile

I'll be picking up Poppins shortly.

It's more disappointing knowing that they had more room on those three discs to include more material. Even with The Lion King, there was still room on Disc 2 for instrumentals. Can't have it all, though, I guess.

Lion King was a huge success. Poppins and Sleeping Beauty a let down. Yeah I'm on pins and needles wondering what Little Mermaid will offer. I really want the expanded score. Personally all these demos are a waste of space. It's like giving us scraps instead of the main coarse.

I have The Lion King on my "to buy" list, but it almost certainly wouldn't be there if they HAD added 'instrumentals' (proper term: karaoke tracks. An actual instrumental would be replacing the singer with an instrument, such as on Kritzerland's Carrie releases).

Was there never a karaoke disk of "Lion King" - for those who want? I think there was even one for "Mary Poppins"...

I'm not talking about karaoke tracks. I'm talking about the orchestral score to the songs without the vocals. Why would instrumentals like that keep you from buying the release?

Yes, they released various songs on cassette and CD for the animated films of the early and mid 1990s (except Aladdin). I believe The Lion King was only available on cassette at the time. But these were actual orchestral instrumentals with nothing else added.

One has to admit, of course, that soundtrack collectors are a bit "spoiled" these days: each time I see a straight-from-LP re-issue I keep asking myself why we are not getting the entire score - and if there isn't a possibility that the full score isn't realeased in order to make us pay twice.

In some cases, however, it is almost too evident that material is deliberately held back in order to cash in again with the next anniversary: why is there still no definite soundtrack for "The Sound Of Music" for instance? "Mary Poppins" seems to fall in the same category now.

You have a point. Disney is definitely known for deliberately holding back material for the next release.

That's exactly what karaoke tracks are. The 'backing' track.

Some things at Disney seem to bear no logic: for instance, "Mary Poppins" was the only Disney feature that I'm aware of that had LP releases on foreign markets - properly sourced from pre-recordings with foreign vocals dubbed (no less!). Yet, it is (almost) the only soundtrack that has never been re-issued on CD in that languages. There have been CD releases of "Bambi", "Cinderella", "The Jungle Book" and on and on - all sourced from the composite prints (with sound effects and all) either because there never were any pre-recordings (as the vocals were directly dubbed to the m&e) or because Disney didn't bother to look for them. Then there's the one title that's already available in releaseable form - and Disney refuses to issue it...

There were similar albums of "My Fair Lady" and "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" - none of which have been re-issued on CD (the international "Chitty" even had one instrumental cue missing from the English-language LP)...
