Marco Beltrami has been hired to score the upcoming thriller The Coup. The film is directed by John Erick Dowdle (Devil, Quarantine) and stars Pierce Brosnan, Owen Wilson, Lake Bell and Sterling Jerins. The movie follows an American family who move to Southeast Asia and find themselves entangled in a violent coup in which merciless rebels attack the city. The director has also co-written the screenplay with his brother, Drew Dowdle, who is producing the project with Michel Litvak, David Lancaster & Gary Michael Walters (Drive, Legion, The Hole). The Coup is set to be released on March 6, 2015 by the Weinstein Company.

this is getting weird... the movie opens in 5 weeks or so and there is still no poster or even trailer available.
Not to mention NO SOUNDTRACK ALBUM ANNOUNCED EITHER.
What is taking Varese so long to announce both THE COUP and SEVENTH SON? wink

Lok. What is the real deal about no release for THE DROP score? Bought the dvd last week when it came out-looooong wait. I love the film and the music, but I love all Beltrami's work.

Well, one is THE DROP and has been released theatrically in September if I remember correctly.
The other is called THE COUP and is set to open in theatres on March 6th smile
While the record labels for whatever reason skipped THE DROP, there is still some chance left for THE COUP smile

I still hope that some label will pick THE DROP and will release it eventually - although "massive" amount of releases of Marco's older scores doesn't make this seem very promissing. But perhaps it could be coupled with upcoming TRUE STORY since both films are released by Fox Searchlight.

If LLL can combine two Jackman's scores, why there is no similar love for MB?

It may be the composer himself who decides he doesn't want a score released, not just the record labels...

hmm... too bad... since it was so much better than 90% of crap that gets released on sparkling new CDs every year... I guess no chance for TRUE STORY release as well, right?

Unknown. I would guess unlikely, unless a label has a particular jones for it.

Is the movie getting released at all? Obviously it was delayed a multiple times and there is still no poster, trailer or even at least a single picture from the actual film (only a couple poor quality photos from the set).
Since nobody gives a damn about Seventh Son, The Coup release seems even less likely. :-/

ok... and it's confirmed now...

The movie is delayed AGAIN. The current release date has been changed to September 2nd in the US and while there are still earlier dates announced for other countries, they'll most likely change soon as well.

The title of the movie was also changed to NO ESCAPE now.
Still no poster, no trailer, no photos.

So hopefully we'll get three new Marco Beltrami's scores in August and early September with THE HITMAN: AGENT 47, FANTASTIC FOUR and NO ESCAPE.

Labor Day weekend. The studio must have so much faith in it.

I heard about the film. Interesting premise (which could lend itself to good music) and coming from the makers of the underrated DEVIL (yeah, I said it), it might be a good nail-biter.

Wow, Beltrami's attraction to material really must be based on two criteria: Is the movie a remake, or does it have the same or almost the same title as another movie from the past 20 years?

I know. Like THE HOMESMAN, SCREAM, WOMAN IN BLACK, THE HURT LOCKER, THE SESSIONS, WORLD WAR Z, TROUBLE WITH THE CURVE, IN THE ELECTRIC MIST, I AM DINA, KNOWING, THE WATCHER.

Truly amazing insight you have into Beltrami's Mind!

You can scratch SCREAM, WOMAN IN BLACK, and THE WATCHER off that list.

He doesn't want to see the movie, that's fine.

I think it looks damn good.

How So? Were the ORIGINALS Remakes? Of course he did the sequels-who hasn't- GOLDSMITH, WILLIAMS, CONTI, etc.

The Woman in Black was previously filmed in a superior version in 1989. Don't know why Scream and the Watcher were mentioned.
