This is a great little score that never quite got the attention it should have...
Along with his unreleased score to SHAFT, David Arnold proved with FOUR BROTHERS he could perfectly recreate the sound and feel of 1970's film scores. He anchors it all with a melancholy main theme -
And in the action cues, that 70's style gives way to his modern style of film scoring -

Great score! Just discovered this! Arnold can write melody in action and dramacues. He is of the old school, like Mancini, Barry and Williams who does not only make sound design for films. This is why he should return to Bond. Sooo tired of Newmans kind of subtleties and mood music.
Yes indeed, I also think it's a great little score, one of my favourites of recent years. I've largely lost interest in "current" scoring (meaning from this century) but occasionally something will come along and rekindle my interest. FOUR BROTHERS did that.
Thanks for bringing that score up. I`ve totally forgotten about it and just listened to it again. It`s fantastic. Great theme. No idea why it didn`t make an impression on me originally.
I saw Four Brothers in theaters, but didn't pay attention to the music at the time––or even realize it was by David Arnold! This thread made me check out some of the tracks and they are great! Smooth, funky, jazzy, but still totally in Arnold's voice. I've got this album coming in the mail now. Should help me prepare for Arnold's London concert coming up.
I remember that I saw at the end of the film that Ed Shearmur wrote some themes, not sure if this was ever been confirmed? I wonder if any of it was included in the Varese release...
I agree, it's a nice little score. I regularly listen to the main and end titles.
Since i read this thread i gave a listen to "Baby Boy", his previous score in what i call his "black trilogy" (Shaft, Baby Boy, Four Brothers). I knew i liked some of the tracks but i was surprise at how much i liked the entire soundtrack this time. If you like Four Brothers, you'll surely like it too. A good thing is that it's not overlong.
If lucky we will have both, and maybe some Shaft, at his concert on Sunday !
