Hmmm, is there really no thread for this already? None came up in the search engine. Music has been used judiciously this season, but it came to the forefront in last night's episode in a huge way. Without giving away too much, the episode, like "Blackwater" in season 2, and also like "Blackwater," directed by the brilliant Neil Marshall, focuses on one battle in one location. Djawadi takes the opportunity to build some momentum throughout the whole piece. It really takes off, especially when he integrates the haunting sound of an enormous war horn. Mirroring the action, it's the biggest score of the season. Worth the price of admission alone for the soundtrack whenever it's released.

Usually there are one or two tracks that interest me, but I honestly can't remember a note from season 4. The only time I noticed the music was when it was tracked in from previous episodes. Maybe there will be some decent material in the finale, though.

Yeah, I remember being perplexed by Jon Broxton's glowing review of Season 1's score. I can't recall a single cue from that one, never picked up number two, and only every play two cues from season 3. From here on out GOT is a cue-by-cue basis instead of full albums for me! Gee, s.3 is outstanding from first to last (except the songs). S.1 was rather blah, I agree. S.2 is also very, very good. bruce

I'm really surprised Djawadi's music for the series isn't being discussed in more depth here. I only jumped on the GoT series bandwagon this year and, subsequently, picked up the soundtracks for all four seasons. The more I listen, the more I notice and realize just how amazing these scores are, especially season 4. Best music on tv, IMO.
