I had sold a copy of Michael Kamen's score The Adventures of Baron Munchausen for $50 to a retail shop and for me, that was a good price at the time, but I wish I had kept it.

One of you has answered this question already, but I'll pose it to the rest: If you could get a friend to make a good dub of some out-of-print album, would you still think of spending money on the original?
For me, at least, it's about the music. With rare exceptions, I don't need the physical souvenir. I might buy a later release for the documentation or to support a worthy record label that takes the trouble to rescue an old score. But for me, "the play's the thing," and I could scarcely care less about the "collector" aspect. Others will differ.
i have a lossless file of the one i want, but i'm far more likely to misplace it than i would be the original disc.
i could burn a cd of it i suppose, and save it from whatever inevitable crash my computer is furiously working towards, but yeah, i guess i appreciate covers and inlays and notes, it's part of the ritual of listening, and reflects my esteem for the art and effort involved.

It's all about the music, isn't it? Collecting is nice and booklets and notes can be informative and decorative, but in the end pretty inconsequential. No one is ever likely to see my collection or take any interest in it apart from myself anyway. I've had copies made for me before and went and bought the original later, I'm not sure I would really do that anymore. I'm more likely to spend it on something I don't have at all.

Indeed, Matt. I've sold a lot of CD's over the years, but I won't part with that one. It's a lesser John Williams film, but certainly not a lesser John Williams score.
I wish I had THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE.

Exactly my sentiments as well, Mitch. I've been prattling on for ages as to why this hasn't seen a reissue. I too only have a CDr of it from my own LP. I agree it's not top drawer Barry but it's a good score and from memory I believe the original CD wasn't the best sounding?
Thomas, I'm sure we're in a minority and, as always: to each ... their own choice.
I've become a little disillusioned with the film score genre of late. I feel I have almost all of the big-named scores that I want (I probably haven't but that's the problem: what should I buy that I don't know ...?  ) and whilst I'm happy to take a punt on a few unknown scores from time to time if they're cheap enough I struggle to identify a score which I'd spend, say, GBP30 or more to acquire ...
... not when I can buy a 20CD (or more) box-set of big-named classical recordings for the same money.
Of course, if there were legitimate releases of the OSTs for Man in the Middle, Follow Me, The Dove, Legend of the Lone Ranger, Inside Moves or Boom! - to name just those scores for which there were legitimate vinyl releases - then I'd find the funds to purchase them, but the only known CD release at GBP30+ I'm interested in presently is Jagged Edge.
Of course, to others, my suggested amount of GBP30,00 may seem inappropriate.
I'm sure someone will point out another JB score I've missed ...

Holy smoke, I've been around and actually do have a few of the above mentioned titles....
... now, off hand... that one out of print title I could buy... sheesh... I don't know... but I sure would like a copy of the old Varese Masters Film music release of Alex North's UNDER THE VOLCANO.
