Last week, it was announced by Sony that they were releasing both Ghostbusters films on 4K Blu-Ray and that there were several offerings by various companies to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Ghostbusters Franchise (http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=14167). I'm hoping that a Complete Score for the first film will be one of the offerings since Sony is going out of their way to commemorate the milestone.

Was there much missing from varese?

IMHO, the main issue lies in the fact that it is the CD that is missing!

I just want a re-release so I can get my hands on a copy. It's long since out of print!

I do love the film versions of the songs and how they were edited in the movie... especially the way Saving The Day was used. Would love to have them. My taste in 80s cheese is showing!

Here's some info about the Varese album:

Hopefully if this score is re-released one day, Aykroyd's name will be spelled correctly.

I bought the OST last year and its two score tracks were enough to hold me over, but I'd be down for a reissue of the score. Can't pay those secondhand prices.

There's about ten minutes missing altogether. The Varese is incomplete. And that's counting the two diner source cues -- two excellent cues, by the way.

Not only should it be re-done so we can get the complete score, but hopefully a new master. The sound qaulity on the Varese CD Club release leaves a lot to be desired.

You could fill two CD's alone, reportedly, with just the rejected main titles songs that were made and passed on for the film.

I don't know what the deal is with the cue in the film where the Magic instrumental transitions into score. Maybe that's an edit job, maybe it was created specifically, maybe it was made after Bernstein, by somebody else.

I was satisfied with the Varese Club sound quality, especially on "Zool".

But this score should always be in print, and in a complete version.

A nice 2 CD set of both film scores would be fine by me!

That's for sure. It's almost "brickwalled". Even a release of the same contents with a better and not overdone mastering would warrent a rebuy from me.

That I would want smile

It sounds like an

The tail from the Varèse-cd, that it was created and recorded especially for the cd sounds reasonable and something Bernstein would do. But it sound so very different from the rest of the score!

Indeed there is a release timed for 30th anniversary Ghostbuster but it is veeery bizarre:

"marshmallow" limited edition.

Yes, this is one of those "mondo" collectable deals. I wonder if you can throw it in the fire and eat it. wink

Btw, I've recently seen the new 4K transfers of Ghostbusters I&II and they looked stunning, so detailed that the flaws in the special effects are apparent (especially for the first), but even so they have not lost their charm. Seeing GB II I do long for a release of that score!

I think so! One of the reviewers complains that the cover material is really as delicate and fragile as true marshmallow.
