Hi everybody, do you think, after the success of poltergeist and poltergeist 2 expanded editions, there's a chance to hope an expanded edition for the third one, composed by Joe Renzetti. Of course, he's not as bankable as Jerry Goldsmith, and the movie wasn't the success the studio expected...but who knows ?

What kind of world do we live in when someone dares to talk about the score to Poltergeist III?

The real question is of couese did JG write music for this crap third film?

For the love of god! No!
He didn't write a single note.

And before anyone asks, no, The Haunting is NOT Jerry's unused Poltergeist III score, so please stop spreading that misinformation.

I do not think it would be bankable at all. I have a copy of an early release of this score (as well as Child's Play) and neither of them are easy on the ears. This score is mostly dissonant chord clusters, low drones, wordless "AH" choir sounds with high pitched (late 80s synth) strings and together just gives a resonance that literally could shatter glass (and mirrors). The end credits is the only time a real melody appears in the film, it would have been nice of that melody had appeared weaved through.

Now, I am not blaming the composer (as many people seem to do) because he was hired to fulfill a task and I am sure he gave them exactly what they asked for....crap. We have seen perfectly capable A-List Composers compose awful music and there have been less recognized composers compose incredible works. Unfortunately, P3 is more of a soundscape for a cold and soulless composition, drones, and muddy dissonant chord clusters. Geez, now I wonder if Renzetti perhaps did actually put some creative thought behind the score, lol.

I adore his Child's Play score, captured the terror and suspense perfectly. However Poltergeist III, movie and score do little for me. Easily death of a franchise.

I like the film and the score! And I would buy an expanded remastered release.

Poltergeist III has the unique distinction of being truly awful on THREE levels:

1. It's a crushing blow of sound-design dullness after the gems provided by JG for P1 and P2.

2. It doesn't support the film at all, except in the most basic "it's creepy so I'll try and write creepy music" way. It elevates nothing. It has no charm or beauty. It is moribund.

3. It's not served at all well by the album, which takes "suspense" cues and segues them with source/party music.

Awful film, awful music.

I very much like Joe Renzetti's (predominantly)orchestral score to The Exterminator (1980),
I'd love to have a CD of that one.

Here's the opening sequence from the film accompanied by Renzetti's electronic/orchestral
music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KVuMa1kSHA

I emailed with him years ago and if I recall correctly he had the score on DAT tape.

Yeah me too, he sent me some stuff from Wanted dead or alive (Rutger Hauer movie), ChildĀ“s Play (many years before LLLR release) and some other stuff.
