This is splendid news. Nino Rota is one of the all-time greats, and yet he gets very little love in the archival soundtrack renaissance of the last decade or two. Perhaps the master tapes just aren't around, or the companies involved are difficult to deal with, or find. But I'm very glad to see Rota getting some attention.

It is difficult to find old masters. Many were erased to record on the same tape a new soundtrack. The owners of the recording in 1950 did not think that someone in the twenty-first century would be interested in those recordings.
Sometimes it's difficult to find the owners of the rights of soundtracks. We are working to publish this kind of soundtracks. Of course, if we find the owners of "Caro Michele" we will publish it.
I think there are certainly two big problems why we haven't got this score on CD: Does RCS still have any master tapes for the Rota score at all? And which of all the CD labels does have access there?
Certainly, a lot of classic scores are definitely lost. Italy is not the worst case. In Spain classic composers like Juan Quintero, Jesús García Leoz or Manuel Parada... has not any CD available with their original music, only 3 CDs with re-recording conducted by José Nieto. Excellent editions that shows the great quality of these composers. Composers like Antón García Abril or Carmelo Bernaola have few CD editions of their music.
