It's actually quite a good film, before Sh!te Leboeuf became a Grade A dick. The score starts out in a folksy/blue-grass style, plus some small-scale suspense, but really gets bigger later on, with some lovely Americana passages in the latter half of the film. It's also got two cool original Eels songs. The CD was all the songs, no score, but there was a promo and he made some great stuff available on his website too. Check it out, I reckon you will like both film and score.

This would be an automatic buy for me if and when it is ever released.

Watched this film again on Sunday afternoon. It's a delightful little film...a real child fantasy treat with a grown-up tone. It's like a Shawshank Redemption-lite for kids. Even Lebeouf is charming, like a young Steve Guttenberg. McNeely seems to be channeling the Thomas Newman score at times too, plus his customary JW infusion (no bad thing). I wonder if Intrada have their eye on this one? Disney..McNeely..seems right up their street?

One used to be able to download mp3 samples from McNeely's site and there were 11 cues from HOLES, totaling only about 20 minutes of music, so it would probably have to be a combo release to fill out a CD.

Aye. That's right. I'm playing that CD right now. I filled up with all that was on offer...11 tracks from HOLES (some gorgeous stuff, great sound quality too) plus lovely stuff from CINDERELLA 3, FOX & HOUND 2, HEFFALUMP MOVIE, HEART & SOUL, LILO & STITCH 2. It was a site full of riches!!
