Ann B. Davis, best known as the ever-chipper live-in housekeeper Alice Nelson on the highly rated ABC series The Brady Bunch, has died in San Antonio, CNN reported. She was 88.
Davis, who earlier won two Emmy Awards for her role as the peppery secretary Schultzy on The Bob Cummings Show, died Sunday after a fall in her bathroom, CNN reported, adding that she hit her head and never regained consciousness.
The Brady Bunch, created by Sherwood Schwartz, originally aired from September 1969 to March 1974 on ABC, then spent a year in syndication, followed by several reunion films and spinoff series.
Davis played the housekeeper Alice on the sitcom and occupied the center square of the checkerboard in the show's opening.
Davis, who was an avid knitter, told People magazine in a 1992 interview that the cast "got along beautifully. … "I had the boys hooking rugs and the girls doing needlepoint." She said in the story that in real life, "I basically don't do that well with children."
Ann B. Davis made her debut in show business at age 6 earning $2.00 in a puppet show. At the University of Michigan, Anne planned to study medicine but got the acting bug from her brother who was the lead dancer in the national company of "Oklahoma" for over a year. Anne then spent six years in little theaters, stock companies, touring musicals, and such until she got her break as "Schultzie", the secretary on the "Bob Cummings Show." Before Hollywood, Anne spent a summer at the Cain Park Theater and a year at the Erie Playhouse in Erie, Pa. She studied everything about show production and played dozens of roles ranging from teenagers to characters over 60. In 1949, she arrived at Porterville, Ca. and spent three years at the Barn theater. She then moved down the coast to Monterey, where she appeared at the Wharf theater. From there she decided to try Hollywood. Anne has also played many parts on stage including "The Women", "Twelfth Night", "Dark Of The Moon", and others. Her mother, Marguerite Scott Davis, appeared with professional stock companies for over thirty years.

Hadn't heard anything about her in years, so was surprised that she was still alive. Always liked her a lot in the many roles I saw her in over the years, primarily "The Brady Bunch." Was happy that one of my local network affiliates led off the 5 pm news with her ... AFTER the circus of Donald Sterling's appearance at an African American church service!

While dying is always sad I always found it so tragic when people make it to a old age and then meet a tragic death through an accident. Although no death is nice, dying peacefully in bed in your 90's seems more understandable. What a shame-R.I.P ANN.
