Is anyone else a fan of this Elliot Silverstein movie? I saw it on a double bill with Day of the Animals and just loved it, so much so I went back and saw it twice more at my beloved Odeon in St Albans.
Sure, it's a schlocky movie and not exactly deep but its good fun and zips along at a decent pace. Its a guilty pleasure for me and I often stick the DVD on when I want a couple of hours of u demanding entertainment.
And seriously, I have always wanted a car that has a horn like The Car!
I have a 1:18 die cast model of the car (actually a 1970 Continental Mk. III customized by the legendary George Barris, for which the front end with its sweeping front end was difficult to build).
The school teachers death is still one of the scariest scenes ever. Just a static shot of the car coming up from behind in the window.
Awesome!
John Landis did a rather amusing Trailers from Hell commentary on The Car.

You know, I can't think of a time I liked John Landis less... well maybe after he killed those children and Vic Marrow. But his endless "this movie is dumb" and "this is so stupid" was just irritating. If he thinks it's that dumb, why is he doing this trailer? He should also be forced to go back and watch some of his classic stinkers.
I got it from Netflix a few months ago because I'm on a 70's movie nastolgia kick and it held up well against my memory of the film. DVD picture quality was weak.
Definitely a favorite. The film never takes itself too seriously and has a nice, campy feel to it. Just think what they could have done had CGI been available then! Great film score too!
