Any other fans of this show?

I've just seen the last episode of the second and presumably last season. So touching!

In fact, almost every episode of this series has left me with a severe throat lump and tear in the corner of my eye.

There's always a fine line between laughter and tears, and in fact once you've established the comedy, the path to more effectful sadness is quite short. Gervais has managed this brilliantly in both seasons, and it's a testament to his excellent writing skills. And also his wonderful acting -- a role which is the opposite of David Brent from THE OFFICE.

I hope there will be a season 3!

Apparently, I'm the only one who's seen this?

You and my brother, Thor. Every time we're in touch he tells me about "Derek" and says that I really have to track it down. I haven't yet, but that's two recommendations. And this thread isn't looking so lonely anymore.

Thanks for the response, Graham!

I'm surprised not more people have tuned into or somehow watched this. Especially in the UK.

I can't speak for everyone in the UK (one day...one day) but I get the feeling that he staled over here very quickly.

It's on Netflix, but haven't got around to watching it yet.

I do like Derek. Unfortunately my wife finds the grottier side of it a little too much, and as a result I haven't caught many episodes. But as someone who works within the care industry, there are many things which strike a chord. And there are many hilarious moments however serious a place it is.

I wouldn't say Gervais has staled. The Office is ground breaking, with many examples on tv around now that have emulated the style. He still has the ability to come up with good shows, and this is one.

My wife and I both work (or worked) in the care profession.....Derek is required viewing for us....plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, plenty of pathos, and some real tugging of the heartstrings (Kev's dog got me going!)....overall, not SO enamoured with series 2 (series 1 deserved far more attention than it got - particularly at awards time), but still better than almost anything else on Brit TV at the moment....Gervais is a national gem....hoping there will be a series 3....
