D.A.R.Y.L.
MUSIC BY MARVIN HAMLISCH
LLLCD 1307
LIMITED EDITION OF 1500 UNITS
RETAIL PRICE: $19.98

ALBUM PRODUCED BY DAN GOLDWASSER

LINER NOTES BY JEFF BOND
ART DIRECTION BY DAN GOLDWASSER

La-La Land Records and Paramount Pictures present the WORLD PREMIERE release of yet another 80’s classic – D.A.R.Y.L. This magnificent score was composed by another legend in the music industry – the late, great Marvin Hamlisch. If you grew up in the 80’s, this light hearted children’s sci-fi film was almost mandatory viewing on cable since it was probably shown at least twice a day on HBO for the entire decade! This La-La Land fav features a memorable and beautiful score by one of Hollywood’s most diverse and talented composers. Also on this release is the film’s title song – SOMEWHERE I BELONG, written by Hamlisch/Pitchford and performed by Teddy Pendergrass. Jeff Bond takes the listener deep inside the film’s history and the scores’ creation as Dan Goldwasser’s sure hand at art direction makes the whole thing look good.

Last but not least, La-La Land ventures out of the realm of soundtracks and into the realm of Bluegrass, Country, Folk, Rockabilly and Smooth Jazz….

Super pleased to see D.A.R.Y.L. I honestly didn't think anyone would tackle it and despite LLLRs love of the 80's I had expected that if anyone would tackle it, that it would have been Quartet.

Wow -- LLL is branching out! I'm intrigued by their first non-soundtrack release, and Empire of the Sun is amazing news! I'm not familiar with D.A.R.Y.L. but I'm glad for its fans. Only slight disappointment is Altered States, because it sounds like it could have been expanded were it not for the composer's wishes. Disappointing because they didn't have to mess with the album program; just present it first and the rest of the score as bonus tracks afterwards, as Lukas did a number of times for FSM releases...

Yo YM - Be happy for what we've got, rather than what could've been. (This sounds like something we might've heard from B5). You well down there? smile

Great releases! A shame we may not be able to get an Addams Family Values remastering down the road as well, since Varese owns that title and most likely will never revisit it. Nice work, LLL. Looking forward to these.

I knew Altered States was coming from some label or other... Amoeba Records in San Francisco had two copies of the old release on its shelf last week.

Annie Harvey shares the stage with Corigliano, Hamlisch, Williams and Shaiman! She would have loved this. BTW When the samples show up give a listen to her (unless you do not like any type of singing at all) the "bluegrass" tag doesn't do justice to the world of song this little lady had in her!

I just can't believe it. Empire of the Sun is one of my favourite and most beautiful of Williams score. I'm so excited and intrigued by its 2cd set. In fact my blu ray just arrived this week. Thank you La La Land.

Now I can complete the Corigliano filmography*! Also, I remember going to see D.A.R.Y.L. on my 16th birthday on a double bill with Silverado (Columbia handled the robot boy flick outside North America, hence the pairing)... I can recreate that pairing now as well!

*If you don't count his thrownout score for Edge Of Darkness.

Why is it June 24th for Empire of the Sun and The Addams Family, instead of June 17th? I thought it was a 2 week gap between each wave of releases.

Does this mean that the July releases will be pushed back to the 8th and 22nd respectively?

WEA and UME titles tend to take longer to manufacture. We want to make sure those titles are in stock or close to being in stock before we ask you to fork over your hard earned Mula.

After June 24 we will be back on the schedule we set at the beginning of the year. JULY 15 will be the next release date. We are skipping July 1 due to the Holiday on July 4th

Does that mean what would have been then will be added to in additional what is planned later in July? Any idea how many titles?
