I just bought the 1986 LP Schimanskis Tatort Hits, featuring a mix of score and songs from the German TV series. It includes 3 lovely tracks by Tangerine Dream, plus other instrumental material by Thilo von Westernhagen, Spliff (with Reinhold Heil) and David Knopfler. I had no idea Knopfler had written score material in his career. Also a couple of nice vocal songs by Mark Spiro (clearly from the writer of Mighty Wings from Top Gun) and Panarama.
I wasn't aware that Mark Knopfler (who's done quite a bit of film music) had a brother at all, much less that he also did film music. And I call myself an old Dire Straits fan!
In the 1970`s, the composer NILS SUSTRATE did some very good scores for some of the best TATORT-Episodes (mostly directed by WOLFGANG PETERSEN). Sadly, non of Sustrates Music was ever released on LP or CD.
Mostly just the (not so great) music from some TATORT`s from the 1980`s had an release on LP or CD (but just only songs and nearly none instrumental music).
