JUDITH, I was familiar with from my old LP, but the film version is terrific. So glad to have more Kaplan and this is one of his most exciting scores. The "Kibbutz/Illegal Landing" and "Damascus" cues are amazing in their full versions. But it's nice to have the album versions too. We need more Sol Kaplan...especially his incredible WAY OF A GAUCHO.
SOLAR CRISIS is a real revelation. I never saw the film and apparently it didn't matter because of re-scoring and low mixing. But the score! Folks who don't care for Jarre and like more modern "soundscape" scores may really like this. At first listen, it didn't even sound like Jarre to me, but on a second turn I could hear many familiar "Jarre-isms" (in a good way). It really demonstrates a masterful mix of electronics and orchestra. The electronics do not drown out the orchestra and are used to good effect. (IMHO it's less electronic than say, ENEMY MINE). Lots of percussion and very energetic throughout. I'm glad I took a chance.
Looking through this site, so far I've noticed the inventory papers section not only on Sol Kaplan, but also Luchi De Jesus, Kenyon Hopkins, Alexander Laszlo, Robert O. Ragland & Nathan Scott (amongst others).

Damn. I really think that Jarre's score is pretty good; almost like a long-lost cousin of ENEMY MINE.
I'm a long-time fan of the music of Maurice Jarre, but didn't pick this one up (so far), I haven't seen the film to help me make any judgement and the sound samples didn't really 'grab' me, but I'm still wondering if I would like it? Time is runing out now...
