He doesn't adapt the Williams material nearly as well as Davis did. If they didn't need the Williams theme, I'd say this was a very good score (though Jupiter Ascending is a far better score) but once the old motif creeps up, its like hearing someone learning to shift a manual transmission for the first time. Well said. I like Giacchino a lot, a lot (Jupiter Ascending and Inside Out are musical triumphs), but I consider Davis a unique, incredibly gifted composer. I re-listened to his JPIII in succession with the franchise scores, and his palette is just incredible there. Perhaps the material speaks differently to the composers. Granted, JPIII ain't The Brothers Karamazov, but for essentially a slasher movie with dinosaurs the music triumphs over the stupidity of the screen. In Jurassic World, Giacchino is going through the motions with aptitude. But it most always just accommodates the pastiche-fest sewn together for this belated box office behemoth; it just never seems to soar, to me. P.S. I love his Lost World game score, and get really excited whenever he quotes that stuff in Jurassic World. "Raptor Your Heart Out" is easily amongst the best cues written for a JP flick.
